"Luna!" Ash, a small annoying kit, screamed from the other side of the camp. I was with Luna, we were just leaving the medic's den.
"What happened to your face!" Ash yelled again running to us, his little paws trampling the grass beneath him as he stared at Luna's heavily bandaged face.
"Leave her alone!" I said in a firm voice. I was honestly proud of myself, as I usually never holler at kits or pups.
"But... what-"
"Life!" I cut Ash off before he could finish.
"But ugh," and then he stomped off.
"Do you want to go hunting? I'm getting hungry,'' Luna said in irritation, staring after Ash. I'm sure she was trying her best not to call an innapropriate comment after him.
"But what about your face?" I responded wondering what she really could do.
"It... just no," she stamped in frustration, "I'll have to get used to it someday."
"Okay," I tried to hide the question in my voice.
Could she really hunt? I thought as we walked out of the camp into the changing forest. I quickly caught a mouse scent.
"Do you want that?" I asked Luna. I honestly just wanted to see if she could still hunt. I hoped she could so we could hunt together but I had my worries.
"Yes, so I can show you I can still hunt!" she replied, a playfully challenging tone in her voice "Stay here, I'll be back."
"Okay?" I said, wondering if I really would stay as she ran off. I got bored pretty soon so I started playing with a beetle I found in the grass.
"I got it! I caught it!" she called, bounding back with a mouse dangling from her jaws.
"Great!" I was surprised she actually managed to catch it with only one eye.
"It's a different one than what you scented, because that one was so far away by the time I left. But I still caught one!" she sounded so happy I couldn't help but be happy myself.
Later, I caught a mouse as well and a ugly song bird, but it still smelled so good it was hard carrying them back without trying one. I had to stop and eat the ugly bird so then I didn't have to look at it anymore. When we got back to camp I scented fear, stress and sickness.
"What's all this? What happened!" I cried, then raced across the camp to Florence's den. There were two more animals in there since I left, covered in a reeking sick scent. I didn't see Florence until she flew by me. As soon as I saw her darting frantically around, I immediately became very worried. "What happened?"I asked trying my hardest to cover my fear.
"They're sick. Now get out, it's deadly and can spread like that," Florence spoke with a voice full of worry, annoyance and sadness. I knew that all of Florence's family died from this, and that it could kill easily. It killed our previous medic, Coujar, and he never figured out the cure. It was a very fatal year, and I didn't want this one to be like it too.
The next day when I woke up it was still dark and most were asleep. Blackwisp wasn't there, but everyone else was, so I quietly got up and decided to go hunting while lots of animals were still out finding food. It took me awhile to find something, but I eventually caught a rabbit. I ate it right when I got it so I didn't upset Shiningstar, since she's a rabbit. I didn't ever fully agree to have so-called prey as a member in the camp. They're usually Ferals, which are unintelligent prey animals that us Sapients-the ones that are able to communicate with other species and have dexterous paws instead of those useless ones- hunt, and she is an important member that could -if she wanted to- kill you with Darkroot or something since she's the Medic's apprentice.
