"MILLIE COME GRAB this from me please and thank you." mom calls out for me. time for family dinner. family. me, mom, dad and charlie. i grab the salad bowl she was holding up and bring it over the to table setting it down. my dad and charlie were on there way home from whatever it is they were doing so my mom and i were preparing. "so, your friend came over earlier" she says "yeah" "he seems sweet, more than a friend?" "nope" "oh, okay then."
"why didn't you tell me dad was coming? i mean mom, c'mon." "because i know how you react, although i didn't expect for you two to see each other before i was home. he was supposed to come after you had left." "how long is he here for?" "i don't know yet. we're trying things out and seeing where they go." "did he sleep here last night?" "yes, in the guest room." "oh you mean the one conveniently placed next to your room?" "loose the attitude millie. that ship sailed. i'm trying to let a father see his children. is that a crime?" "when it's him? yeah."
we had all taken out seats at the table, there wasn't much to talk about so it was quiet for the most part. i also wasn't super hungry. i lost my appetite when madi decided to make a scene at the coffee shop. "what did you guys do today" mom asks the guys. "we got lunch and walked around downtown" charlie says "mills, what about you?" dad asks "hung out with friends" "will i meet these friends?" "yeah maybe when you come around again in tow years" "millie." my mom warns "you know, i'm actually not that hungry, i think i'm just gonna go up to bed." i tell them and without waiting for an answer i made my escape up the stairs and into my room.
i had decided to facetime my bestfriend, callen from boston, he knew everything about my family situation. considering we haven't talked much since i moved and i had to beg him to take a break at work. i facetimed him on my macbook and waited for him to answer. "hey millie" he answers the call with a smile on his face "cal! please tell me you can get work off and come down here sometime? i'm dying here with my parents and no friends." "i will try my hardest, you've got to have friends down there come on millie. how was your day? where is everyone?" he sighs "downstairs eating dinner, i made a snarky comment towards my dad so i excused myself before i made another." "nice mill" he laughs, he wasn't the biggest fan of my father either "make sure you eat dinner though" "yeah i will, i just wanted to check in with you" "you seem off, what's going on?" "you really wanna know?" of course he did, he loved all the drama in my life. "lay it on me"
"when we moved here, i went to a party and met grayson, we clicked a little but it went no where. then i met these two girls who invited me back to one of their houses and he was there, at the end of the night him and i made out, now i really didn't know much about him at the time so i didn't think anything of it. then we went to his hockey game the next day because one of the girls also has a brother on the team, anyway, at this game i met madi, who is in love with grayson. again, i didn't know this. after the game grayson and i spent the day togerher, no one knows this and we left it at that, but a few days ago i had girls night here and madi came, she wouldn't shut up about grayson so i had texted him, i was very drunk and basically outed myself for being jealous. anyway, fast forward to lastnight, we were all at a party and this asshole texts everyone on his hockey team not to talk to me tonight. so they all listened and i had eventually heard about this message which led to a argument between grayson, madi and i. she was going on about how i'm a horrible friend because i fucked grayson behind her back, which i did not! and so now the two of them are done too. now today, grayson comes over, and we do some things i'm not going to share with you as, my brother, and we decide to keep it between us, and then we go to the coffee shop with everyone else. and guess who walks in? madi. so no i'm not really doing well because everything that could go wrong went wrong."
"holy shit." is all callen can say. "am i a bad person" "how far did you go with him today? i don't want details but give me an idea" "well we didn't have sex, but i'm sure that was the plan if we weren't interrupted" "interrupted?" "i got a call, i don't wanna talk about it." "does grayson care about this madi chick? and does he like you, or is he just trying to get with you for sex?" "he doesn't like madi, and he said he was into me but then madi said today that if i ever thought he was into me he's not. so now i don't know what to believe" "well do you like him?" "i don't know, i don't think so? its confusing, i mean i haven't known him all that long" "i think you need to text him and see where his head is at, maybe it will ease your mind a little" "yeah, maybe" "i have to get back to work, call me if you need me okay? love you millie" "love you" i end the call and sigh, what do i even say to grayson?
