Chapter 28
A room.
A red door.
Just me.
I look at my surroundings, but there is nothing to observe. The room is completely black with no definitive measurements. The room could be hundreds of miles long for all I know. I could not even guess where I am or what is around me.
But I feel constricted as if I am in a room filled to the brim with people and objects. However, all I can see is the red door.
There doesn't appear to be anything special about the door, but something feels off. Is it just my imagination, or is the door moving?
There is no wind, no distinctive noises, nothing but me and the door. I am neither cold, nor hot, yet I feel myself heating from the panic.
Where am I?
The only thing I can do is approach the only other thing in this room - the door. I take a step closer.
It is definitely moving, but how? It looks solid and sturdy, yet it ripples.
I take another step.
Now I can hear a noise. It almost startles me. It's like the sound of gushing water down a dangerous waterfall. But where is it coming from?
I take another step and another.
As I get closer, I realise the sound is coming from the door. Or is it behind the door? I can't tell anymore.
After what feels like hours, my eyes on the door, I am close enough to reach out and grab the handle. I hesitate, watching as the red door ripples and moves, like the surface of a calm body of water.
I grab the handle.
It is a firm metal - completely normal. I relax slightly, take a deep breath, and turn it.
Flooding.
The door doesn't open, it collapses. Crimson, thick water gushes from the now empty doorway. The handle vanishes as I get swept away, inhaling the water as it forces me under.
Soon I am surrounded by the liquid. It fills the room to the point where I can't touch the ground.
Panic.
After a while, I stop thrashing around and begin to observe the water. What is it? Why am I here? I come to the surface and tread water.
Suddenly, a putrid smell reaches my nose. I could recognise that smell from anywhere.
Its blood.
As soon as I let out a groan of disgust, something glides by my sensitive body. I freak out, swimming away from it. I find my feet and stand in the waist-high blood, searching for the thing that had touched me.
