Unexpected

Nervous

You sit down to eat with your family smiling ear to ear over the last message that Leah had sent you. Your nostrils filled with the smell of gravy and beef as you plated up and tucked in. Christmas dinner with your family was always something that made you smile, every year was always the same but it had almost become an end of year comfort for you, especially after a year of very physical work.
"What are you doing for New Year darling?" Your Mum asks, taking a sip of her red wine.
"I don't actually know, I haven't thought about it yet. I think Beth and Viv are hosting a party at their house so I might go to that." You say before scooping a mouthful of food.
"Awww, then you can have a midnight smooch with Leah." Your sister chimes in.
"Samara!" You elbow her in the ribs. Although that did actually sound very appealing to you.
"So, do you think this things between you and Leah is serious?" Your Dad ponders.
"I hope so. It's not been long but I've honestly never felt like this before. She's not she who's name we do not mention. She's kind and sensitive and I can be myself around her without worrying who she's with when I'm not with her." You smile at your own words.
"That sounds great. I just worry about you getting hurt again." Your Dad smiles at you. He was a funny man, although he was much the comedian on the outside he would give anything to make sure his family is happy.
Before you knew it dinner was finished and you all sat in your family living room delicately after eating too much. You check the time on your phone.

Hope you enjoyed your Christmas dinner, was thinking of getting to you for 6ish? X

You smile at your phone and eagerly type back.

'Hey Le, I'm stuffed! Hope you had a good one too 😘 6ish sounds great, I'll gather my things x'

You get up and everyone turns to look at you.
"I'm just putting my things by the front door. Leah's on her way." You smile and run to get your bag and coat to the front door and head back into the living room. You sit back down and fiddle with the strings on the hoodie that Leah gave you.
"Are you nervous or something?" Your Dad nudges you lightly.
"A little. I just want you to like her." You smile shyly at your family.
"Anyone that can make you smile the way you've been smiling today, we're going to like. If she breaks your heart however I will-"
Your Dad's caring speech was interrupted by the doorbell and your stomach starting doing summersaults.
"I'll get it. It'll be Leah." You get up quickly and head towards the front door. You hear everyone shuffling around in the living room as you pause in the hallway to check yourself in the mirror. You flatten a few bits of hair and check there's nothing around your mouth before taking a deep breath and opening the front door.
"Hey, you." Leah is stood in a navy blue jumper and grey chinos, looking at you with her mesmerising blue eyes.
"Hey, Le." You hands hold either side of her face as you guide her to your lips. You kiss her deeply, having missed her being close to you. She winds her hands around your waist and pulls you into a hug.
"Are you gonna leave me out here in the cold or what?" Leah jokes.
"Shit. Sorry. I just missed you." You blush and step aside so that Leah can walk into the hallway.
You see her looking around, taking in her surroundings.
"Come on. They're in the living room." You hesitantly take Leah's hand and walk with her side by side through the kitchen into the living room. She gives your hand a squeeze as you step down into the living room, your family's heads turning to you both.
"Mum, Dad, Samara, this is Leah. Leah, this is my Mum; Angie, My Dad; Eric and my sister; Samara." Leah smiled widely at them all and to my surprise, went to give them all a hug.
"Nice to meet you Leah, congratulations on winning the euros over the summer, it was a spectacular game. We all watched it here. She even cried." Your Dad said, pointing at you, making you blush.
"You never told me that." Leah said cheekily.
"I didn't think it needed to be said." You say, going shy.
"It's cute." She says, giving you a wink, making your knees go weak.
Samara starts making gagging noises at our interaction.
"Shut up, Samara!" You glare at her from across the room. Leah goes and gives her a hug and says hello.
"You're actually my favourite Arsenal player, I told her earlier I prefer you." She starts laughing and Leah joins in.
"Nothing wrong with a little healthy competition I guess." Leah smirks.
"Shall we go?" I ask her.
"Yeah. Come on then. It was lovely to meet you all. I hope to see again soon." Leah was full of smiles. She made your heart want to burst.
Your family say their goodbyes to you both and you grab your bag and coat on the way out. Your family follow you to the front door to see you off.
"Take care of her okay, Leah?" You Dad smiles softly at her, making my heart happy seeing such a pure interaction between them.
"Of course, Eric. She's special to me." Leah squeezes you into her side and you smile in content.
"See you soon, love. It's been a pleasure, Leah." Your Mum blows a kiss at the both of you as you get into your cars.
"Follow me?" Leah asks before shutting the door. You nod sliding into your own car and starting the engine.
You wave to your family as you reverse off the driveway and begin following Leah to Newport Pagnell. The roads were quiet and it only took you 15 minutes to zoom down all of the dual carriageways until you reach her little town. She pulls off onto a driveway and gets out as you park on the road behind her car.
"I'm so happy you're here." Leah approaches you a kisses you gently on the lips.
"Me too. I'm nervous." You laugh, holding your stomach to regulate your breathing.
"It's going to be okay. They're going to love you." Leah pulls you into her and you take a deep breath, inhaling her scent before she takes your hand and walks you to the front door.
"Ready?" She asks, placing her hand on the door handle.
"Ready." You nod slowly and she opens the door into her family home, leading you in by her hand.
