Chapter 2

Max Steller

Today is the day. Today I finally move into my dorm for college. I feel like I should be more excited about this, but I just can't seem to be. I mean come on Max, you're moving into Princeton University. The Princeton University. Princeton University as in one of the most prestigious, competitive, and over all amazing schools you could get into. It's a god damn ivy league! You're also on their division 1 track team. Even though I should be bouncing off of the walls with excitement I just can't.

I just cant help feel like something is missing. Maybe it's because I don't live with my sister anymore... I mean I have spent every single day of my life with her. It would make sense, right? I mean that could definitely be it. I don't know.

No No No. I don't think that's it. It's probably because I can't see my girlfriend. Yeah, that's definitely it. Maybe I should text her, or call her, or just do something.

...

After laying in my bed thinking about life for an hour I finally decide to get up. I check the time, 7:53. I decide to text Kalani, "Goodmorning Sunshine"

She instantly responds with, "Goodmorning, can I Facetime you?"

"Of course"

Incoming call from Kalani <3: Accept or Decline

"Hi," she starts with a smile.

"Hi, how are you?" I smile back.

"I'm great, I just got to my dorm with my dad. What about you?"

"I'm doing good, I just woke up."

"I thought you said you were going to try and be at your dorm before 8:00," she says teasingly.

A big smile on my face instantly forms at her words, "that was the plan, but I overslept. I probably won't get there till around 9:00."

"Oh, well maybe you should set an alarm next time."

"Oh my God! Really? I never thought of that," I say with a smirk.

"Yeah, you really should. You're practically hopeless without me, huh?," she says with a playful frown.

"Oh for sure," I say with a slight laugh.

"Mhm. Anyway, are you excited?"

"I mean yeah... something just feels off though."

"Oh, well hopefully it'll hit you when you get there."

"Yeah, I hope."

"Well, I've got to go. Let me know when you get there."

"Okay I will."

"Love you!"

"Love you too!"

After kalani hung up the phone I check the time once again, 8:06. I should start getting ready. I slide out of the hotel sheets and head to the bathroom.

In the bathroom I stand in front the mirror taking in my image for a second. Something about hotel mirrors makes everything look crisper, I just can't tell what. Oh well.

I open Spotify and put on this "Good day" playlist made by "tighywhitey" and hop into the shower. Something about this playlist and a hot shower just makes me feel at ease. It reminds me of something, someone.

Getting out of the shower I dry off a bit with a towel and wrap it around my waist. I check the time again, 8:18. I should start my morning routine.

After finishing up with the bathroom I head to my luggage to find an outfit for the day. A white shirt layered under my green crew neck sweatshirt, some black cargo pants, green Air Jordan 1 low's, some minor jewelry, and my "White" necklace.

DING

I check my phone to see a message from my dad saying, "if you don't get to the car in 5 minutes I'm leaving you here and driving home."

"Hold on I'm heading out right now," I text back to him.

I get into the car and instantly hear, "we were supposed to leave an hour ago, it's 8:37 Max."

"I know, I know. I slept through my alarm," I lie.

"Okay, well next year I'm going to come into your room if you're not up and getting ready half an hour before we're supposed to leave."

"Okay, okay. Let's just go."

...

My dad and I drive through the McDonald's drive through and order our breakfast. Not anything fancy but it gets the job done.

"Hear from your mom or Bella today?," my dad asks.

"Nope, have you?," I reply with my mouth full.

"Not yet, but they're probably setting up her dorm or something," my dad answers.

"Yeah, probably."

...

We get to the beautiful campus and I'm in awe. This is the first time I've been on the campus, and it's amazing. I head inside the building where I get my student ID, student key, and my dorm room key.

When I reach the door to my dorm all the excitement of college life starts to hit me. I hope my roommate's chill. Opening the door the room it seems realtively empty, the only thing in it is a bunch of boxes, some luggage, and other homey items item. No roommate. Cool, I guess I have time to set up before they get here.

My dad stays long enough to help me bring my things to my room. After the last load my dad and I go to meet my mom downstairs so that they can head home in their car. I give my parents a big hug, share some sentimental statements, and watch them leave for home.

By the time I'm back in my dorm it's already 9:08. I realize that I was supposed to let Kalani know when I get to campus. Whoops.

I start the conversation, "Hey, I got to the campus and I'm setting up my dorm room right now."

She responds within a minute with, "what took you so long to get there?"

"Um."

"You just remembered to text me right now, didn't you?," she replies.

I can just imagine the annoyed yet caring look that she often give me on her face right now.

"Maybe..." I send with a smirk on my face

Before I can see her response I hear the door click open. I turn around to see him.

Aiden White.

The silence was deafening, and the atmosphere of the room seemed to thicken. To break the tension I say something, "hey..."
