Freya felt stiff and sore. She licked her lips and opened her eyes. "Oh, good your awake." The lady doctor from before rolled over in a chair from across the room. "Uh huh, your fevers broken."
She removed her hand from Freyas forehead. "How do you feel?" Freya squinted her eyes. "How's the other girl?" The doctor gripped Freya's wrist. "She made it back thanks to you--" Freya looked around the room.
This time the doctor didn't seem as---joyful as before. Freya groaned and closed her eyes again. "What? Does it hurt? I thought I had you pretty drugged." Freya shook her head. "No, I'm fine, A lot happened yesterday—I feel a little sick."
Freya looked up at the doctor. "I shouldn't have left them." The doctor stood and turned her back. "It---wasn't your fault--" her voice cracked "The Yeths have never come this far. You—were very brave."
Freya stared at the of bright red scarf that the doctor clutched in her hands and a new wall of sickness washed over her. Luna was her daughter. Freya clenched her jaw and turned away. S
he fingered the soft shirt she was wearing; it wasn't colorful like the other womans, they must have lent it to her after she gave her shirt to the other girl. Freya grunted as she threw her legs over the side of the bed, the thin blanket falling to the floor. The doctor spun around. "No!"
Freya's hand clenched the side of the cot tightly as she stared down at her leg. "The Yeth tore through the muscle, I couldn't save it, I'm--so sorry.." Freya stared down at her metal leg, from her knee down was a carefully crafted metal leg.
Freya felt a lump forming in her throat. Her leg was gone. She wiggled her new metal toes, "Amazing how the Algras know how to build a leg but not guns to kill those things." Freya laughed bitterly, tears coming to her eyes.
The doctor started to cry, and she sank to the floor. "It's pitiful! I know! If we had just learned how from the humans, then my daughter wouldn't be dead, and Amy wouldn't either!" she buried her face in her hands and sobbed on the floor.
Freya stood from the bed and grabbed her jacket off the end of the bed throwing it on and started from the door, but it was flung open, and Zoe was there throwing her arms around Freya. "I'm so sorry!" she sobbed.
"They couldn't save your leg! But--." she sniffed and pulled back letting her tears stream down her face. "You saved me and Naga." Freya body stiffened and she felt anger starting to burn through her.
"I saved three of you, Zoe, there were three." Zoe's lips quivered. "She died yesterday, Fey." Freya pushed passed Zoe. Freya couldn't deal with this right now. She wanted to go home where the worst thing that she would let happen to her was a one hit in the face, because before someone could hit her again, they would already be on the ground.
She had let herself get soft; she had lost her leg trying to save people, why was she so loyal? She had sworn a long time ago to look only after herself, because no one else would. She limped down the hall toward the large eating cavern.
She struggled to learn how to use the new leg. She wished her pants didn't have so many holes so she couldn't see the leg. She drew her hood over her face. She just needed a minute.
The Algras would most likely kill her after the loss of two of their women. Woman were important down here, very few were able to have children and their race was dying away. Freya looked down over the huge cavern, a few Algras were gathered around a small group, they were crying, and the people tried to comfort them.
Freya closed her eyes for a second before turning and walking toward the huge door leading to the outside world. She wasn't stupid, she didn't just rush into a battle stupidly to save others, her life meant nothing, no one was back on earth praying she'd be alright, Zoe had a family, so did the Algras girls.
It was harder to open the door, but she finally was able to open it and she stepped out into the moonlight. She drank it in, the cool breeze brushed against her skin. She stared up at the two moons, lovely. She let her hood fall from her head.
She took a few steps before sliding down the side of the stone wall. She looked up at the sky. She licked her lips, as tears streamed down her face. She leaned her head against the stone. What was she going to do?
Something terrified her even more now, who had put Kats head on the pole? And why? She slammed her fist against the stone and hid inside her hood. Why was she so angry?
"You don't learn, do you?" Freya's head spun around, and she wiped her face fiercely. Captain Uzu stood next to the door. "Leave me alone." Freya spat out. He growled and stalked over toward her. "I'm not going to save you a fourth time."
Freya yelped as she felt his hand grip her arm and pull her to her feet. "Get inside." He growled. Freya grabbed his arm with her free hand. "Let me go---that hurts." she gasped, trying to pull his hand away.
Freya saw his eyes flicker down to her metal leg. She gasped as he kicked it out from under her. "Hey!" He threw her over his shoulder and carried her inside. Freya screamed and tried to squirm out of his grip.
"Let me go!" Uzu kicked a door open. "I think she needs to sleep for another day Doctor." Freya yelled out and tried to grab the doctor's arm as she pushed a needle into Freya's neck. "No!" The doctor took a faltering step back.
"it's okay, were not trying to hurt you Fey." Freya pounded the captain's back. "I just needed a minute you monster!" the numb feeling spread through Freyas body, and she fought to stay awake. "I just wanted a minute."
Freya mumbled resting her head against the captain's back. "I saw three dead bodies yesterday, it---hurt." Freya eyes fluttered closed. "Three? Freya?" The doctor grabbed her arm, but Freya had already fallen asleep.
Freya never dreamed but this time she did. She was standing in complete darkness, there was nothing except one other person.
She had lovely long black hair that flowed down her back. She held something tightly to her chest, she looked frightened. Freya took a step toward her.
Suddenly men in uniforms were grabbing for the woman. There was silence but Freya could see the woman screaming and gripping the bundle tighter to her. Freya tried to run to her, she had to help her. But she was frozen to the spot.
The men finally grabbed the bundle from the woman while two other men grabbing her dragged her away kicking and screaming. Freya struggled around in the darkness trying to help the woman.
The men investigated the bundle and Freya saw their faces turn in away disgusted. Freya stood on her tip toes trying to peer into the bundle of cloth.
A baby with short curly black hair and large black eyes stared up at the men, crying for its mother. An ugly fresh cut ran from her left ear to her mouth and back up to her right ear. "I wanted to make sure you knew you were special Freya."
Freya spun around, the woman with the long black hair smiled lovingly at her, her hair waving wildly around her even though there was no wind. "I didn't want people to think you were normal, because you're not. You're stronger, braver, and more loyal than any other human, stronger than your father."
Freya grasped for the woman, but she vanished in her arms. "Mom?!" Freya spun around in a circle. Freya ran her fingers over her scar. "Mom?" Freya stumbled through the blank darkness.
The woman appeared a few feet in front of her. Freya dashed toward her but stopped short. She looked back down at her leg panicking. The metal leg was heavy, and she couldn't lift it.
The woman started to fade but she held her arms out and smiled. Freya grabbed her metal leg and struggled to pull at it. "No! Don't go!" Freya shouted as the woman faded away.
