The streets were empty and quiet, the only sound heard were the echos of Millie's feet pounding on the ground. Millie ran towards the gambling den, stopping when she found two groups of men standing in front of one another.
On one side stood John, Freddie, and a few Peaky Blinders. On the other stood over fifty men who she could only guess were Kimber's men. No Arthur or Tommy in sight.
Millie's heart felt heavy as she watched the boys gather over a body and Kimber's men begin to leave. She pushed past the confused men, struggling to breathe as she neared the boys. When she finally neared she saw two men carrying the body of Kimber, a bullet hole in-between his eyes. Her heartbeat quickened when she saw Arthur turn around.
"Where's Tom?" Millie asked, watching as the boys gave her a look of pity.
"Millie-" John tried to hold her back only for her to push past him. Millie's eyes widened as she saw Danny laying in front of Tommy who had been shot.
"Danny boy." She whispered, dropping down next to them.
"Millie." Tommy whispered, taking her hand in his.
The men gathered around her as she said a small prayer, closing Danny's eyes and crossing him. She took a deep breath as the men disbanded and Arthur began to help Tommy to the Garrison. They were alright she repeated to herself.Tommy had made things right.
"Scutboat, Curly, can you pick him up please." Millie finally asked the two who were still looking at Danny's limp body. The two nodded, immediately doing as told. John wrapped an arm around her and followed Arthur and Tommy.
"I left Poll at the Garrison." Millie suddenly said, wiping away a few tears she had shed.
"We're all heading there now love. Are you alright?" John asked, watching as Millie followed the boys inside. Millie remained quiet, focusing on the men in front of them.
"I'm alright Johnny." She whispered.
Once at the Garrison Polly wrapped her arms around Millie, kissing the top of her head as everyone waited for Tommy to get his bullet taken out. Millie and the Shelbys watched as Jeremiah prepared himself to extract the bullet. He asked John and Arthur to help hold Tommy back. Without another word he dug into his shoulder, Tommy groaning as the tweezer dug deeper.
Jeremiah quickly pulled out the bullet, dropping it onto a whisky glass. Arthur opened a bottle of whiskey that sat at the table, taking a sip before handing it to Tommy. He chugged a bit of the bottle down before handing it back to him. Arthur flipped it and poured some in the wound, causing Tommy to groan louder.
The boys slowly made their way into the private room where the rest of the men stood watching Danny's body. Polly squeezed Millie's shoulder as she excused herself to go find Ada and Finn, leaving Tommy and Millie alone once more.
"Are you alright?" Millie asked as he began to slowly dress himself.
"I'm great Millie." He said softly, offering her a small smile.
"Are you sure?" Millie asked, looking at the blood stained clothes.
"I'm alright Millie, I promise." He reassured the short blonde.
She slowly nodded, motioning him to join the rest of the men. They both joined the group of men and the Shelbys, Freddie sending her a small smile from across the room. Millie sent him one back, mouthing a welcome home as everyone remained quiet.
"Now we can bury him properly in the grave we dug for him." John said, staring at the body.
"Yeah. It's high on a hill. He'll like that." Tommy said, opening the bottle of whiskey with his mouth and spitting the cap on the floor.
