ELENA SITS DOWN ON THE COUCH, ELIJAH AND SYDNEY sitting on the opposite couch. Tate on the floor crawling, Elena just watches the baby in awe. Sydney smiles at her, she nudges Elijah to speak.
"My family was quite close but Klaus and my father did not get on too well. When we became vampires, we discovered the truth. Klaus was not my father's son. My mother had been unfaithful many years before. This was her darkest secret. Klaus is from a different bloodline," he starts, not looking at her as he speaks but at his daughter who was giggling.
He stands up and picks her up before continuing, "Of course, when my father discovered this he hunted down...he killed my mother's lover and his entire family. Not realizing, of course, that he was igniting a war between species that rages until this day."
Elena looks at him confused then at Sydney. "A war between the species?" she questions.
Sydney nods. "The vampires..." Elijah starts.
"...and the werewolves," the young mother finishes.
The doppelganger looks even more confused. "Klaus' real father was from a werewolf bloodline? What does that make Klaus?" she asks.
"A hybrid," Sydney answers, once she does, the brunette's mouth hangs open. Elena didn't think that was possible.
"A hybrid would be deadlier than any werewolf or vampire. Nature would not stand for such an imbalance of power. Therefore the witches, the servants of nature saw to it that my brother's werewolf side would become dormant," he continues, shifting Tate to his other arm.
"It's the curse he wants to break, he wants to trigger that part of him that's a werewolf," Sydney tells the girl.
"If allowed, Klaus would sire his own bloodline. He'd build his own race. Endangering not just vampires...but everyone," the original reveals, focusing on his daughter.
"But you helped him," the brunette points out.
"I helped him because I loved him. That's changed now he must die," he says, Sydney could hear how distanced he sounded.
