We had been riding in his black hummer for quite sometime without speaking. It was silent, but somehow so loud. I felt like screaming or just demanding answers, but I had tried. He just kept muttering about how I would find out when we get there.
I should probably be worried about where we were headed. I mean, I didn't trust him at all. The only reason I agreed to come was because he seemed so vulnerable and desperate... he seemed like he needed me.
I knew that was crazy, though. Why would I be of any use to him? He hated me. I hated him.... so why was I here?
I sucked in a breath, beginning to question his motives. Maybe this was revenge for Kennedy. Maybe he was going to drop me off somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Or worse, take me to someone who would hurt me.
Looking out the window I had no clue where we were, somewhere away from town. There was forestry lining the road and it was only occasionally that cars passed. Wherever we were going was secluded, and that scared me. A lot.
I glanced over at Michael who was staring straight ahead, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly. He gave me a sideways glance and I couldn't tell what he was feeling. He just looked emotionless.
Sighing I readjusted myself in the seat, propping my feet up on the dash and crossing them.
"Get your feet off the dashboard."
I looked over at him, surprised. The first words spoken in over thirty minutes.
"Only if you tell me where you are taking me," I shot back, a smug look on my face.
He narrowed his eyes and focused them back on the road, deciding not to start am argument. I almost wished he would. The silence was killing me.
I turned back to look out the window at the trees passing by. The sky was a gray-blue color, with the sun obscured behind clouds and the trees were turning different colors. It was kind of pretty out, actually... in a dark and ominous way.
I leaned my head against the cold glass and shut my eyes. Might as well sleep.

"Wake up."
I closed my eyes tighter, not wanting to open them and face reality.
"Brinley we are here. Open your eyes," Michael voice floated through my ears.
I groaned and opened my eyes, sitting up. My neck hurt from sleeping in an uncomfortable position. However, that was the least of my concern.
We were in a town now, parked in front of a small strip mall. I glanced at the clock, which read 10:37. Its been around three hours since we left school, which would make this a heck of a drive.
"Michael why are we here?" I asked, yawning.
"I need your help. Finding a present for my mom," he said flatly. "I don't know what girls like so I needed you to come."
I nodded, but still didn't understand. Mean, nasty Michael had enough decency to drive three hours to buy his mom a present? Why didn't he just go to a store that was in our city? It didn't make sense, but since he was being bearable I just pushed the questions away.
"Okay... what does your mom, uh, like?" I asked as we got out of the Hummer and started walking down the empty sidewalk. There wasn't really anybody out.
"I don't know, that's why I had you come," he said gruffly.
I sighed and looked up at the store names. Cary's Corner read the one we were under. I peered into the glass and saw lots of clothes, hats, purses, and other fashion items.
