As sure as the sky was blue, Ashton broke not only two of his knuckles, but his whole wrist was also fractured. His worst nightmare come to life. Now he couldn't play the drums.
Kat had come to retrieve her broken boyfriend and I was stuck waiting for my mom in the hospital lobby at 7:45 at night since she didn't offer me a ride. I hadn't even eaten dinner since the icecream I didn't get was supposed to be my dinner. Yes I eat ice cream for dinner don't judge.
I adjusted myself in the uncomfortable plastic chair. I hated hospitals. They smelled like antiseptic wipes and had negative energy.
The large white doors separating the waiting room from the patients rooms clicked open and a family of three walked out, a mom, dad and a little girl, maybe four or five. The mom was crying and the dad's eyes were red and puffy.
The little girl tugged on her mom's shirt. "Mommy is sissy going to be okay?" I heard her ask as they walked out the revolving doors.
I didn't hear the answer but I hoped whoever it was would be okay.
A few more people exited through the doors as a voice came over the speakers in the hospital.
"It is now 7:55 and the visiting hours will be over in five minutes. Please find the nearest exit and say goodbye. Again, it is now 7:55 and the visiting hours are over in five minutes. Thank you."
I sighed and rest my head in my hands, tired. I couldn't wait until I got home and am able to lay on my comfortable bed in peace.
"Brinley? What are you doing here?"
I looked up and met Michael's green eyes. Except they weren't just green, they were kind if red too. Like he had been crying...
"I drove Ashton here. He broke his knuckles and fractured his wrist," I explain, my voice level. I didn't know what his intentions were. I never did.
He sighs and sits down in the chair next to me. "Do you need a ride home?"
So he can kill me? No thanks.
I quickly shook my head no. "My mom is coming. What are you doing here?" I asked curiously.
"Uh, nothing. Listen Brinley I'm sorry okay? Sorry that Kennedy made you do that this morning. Sorry that I have hurt you in the past. Sorry that I make your life hell and sorry I yell at you so much," he apologized. He stared at the white tiled floors as he spoke, but I could tell he meant it.
I was shocked and somewhat confused that he was apologizing or even talking to me.
I was lost for words so I just stared at Michael until he looked up at me. I smiled to let him know it was okay and that I forgave him. He didn't smile back and I realized I had never actually seen him smile. He just smirked.
"Just.... just please don't do any of that again," I said, breaking the silence.
He nodded and got up. "Okay. This doesn't mean we are friends.... understand?" He said flatly.
I knew it wouldn't last but I wished it would. "Yeah, yeah."

"Mom where the heck are you?" I yelled into the phone, my breath coming out in clouds of air.
That was at least the tenth time I had called her in the last hour and every time she didn't answer. I also called my brother twice but he was probably sleeping that lazy potato.
I dialed Cassie's number and waited for her to answer.
"HEY SUGAR!" She yelled into the phone.
"Uh, hey Cas. Could you come pick me up? I'm at the hospital.. my mom won't answer her phone," I asked her hopefully.
"Yeah of course... why are you at the hospital?"
"Ashton fractured his wrist trying to punch the floor," I laughed.
"Aww my silly goofball. I'll be there soon Brin wanna just stay over?"
"Yeah sounds good. Hurry I'm dying of coldness," I said quickly.
"OKAY I WILL. BYE BYE BRIN BRIN!" She yelled as she hung up.
I blew out a breath of warm air and shoved my phone into my back pocket. Thank god for phones and friends.

*About an hour later I was in pajamas under the warm comforter. Cas and I wore about the same size except I was about three inches taller. She was super short, I used to call her munckin.
"Have you got a hold of your mom yet?" She asked, walking into the room with a bowl of popcorn. She sat down on the other side of the bed and placed the bowl in between us.
"No... I'm kind of worried," I admitted. She is easy to get a hold of usually so why wasn't she answering?
"I'm sure she's just busy."
"Yeah...." I said, unsure.
"What do you want to watch?" She asked, turning her Netflix on her TV.
"American Horror Story!" I cheered.
"Sounds good." We were watching it together and were on season two, which we didn't like as much as season one but still.... Evan Peters.
After about two episodes my phone rung and I looked at it, Cas pausing the show.
Keaton
"Hey what's up? I'm at Cassandras since mom didn't come pick me up and nobody was answering," I explained.
I heard him sniffle. "Keaton? You okay?" He never cried... That boy has broken two ribs and been perfectly fine.
"No Brinley I'm not. Mom and dad..... they're dead."
