"Okay! I'll look, bye." I spoke softly, happy that he would let me use his card freely. I won't be racking up the bill...I think.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind. I'll try to contain myself, my smile was evident. Cassie nudged me hearing Leonardo's directions to his card, "Imani say bye, baby."

Imani pushed on her feet, sticking down the velcro strap. "Bye Mr Mattie!" She squealed, he swiftly said his goodbyes and we hung up.

I held Imani, looking at Cassie knowing I should start to find his card. Although I had my bank account on my phone, I didn't have my physical card. Plus, I may need to get something without his knowledge.

Or if I need to leave.

..

Digging through his neatly organized drawers, I lifted countlessly pieces of paper in the back drawer. Wondering how a drawer separated by plastic dividers, was so full. He definitely has a niche for neat, organized spaces.

Even his bed with flat, as if an iron grazed over it. Smoothing any minuscule creases, after not finding them. I looked at the bottom drawer, it was stubborn to open. As if something was gluing it together.

Pulling it open, I saw a stack of messily placed pieces of paper, and a card lying in the far corner. So much for the neat and organized statement.

Deciding to be nosy, I saw a letter which was scrunched up. My heart was intrigued, telling me to push forwards yet everything else was telling me not to intrude.

Deciding to follow with my heart- hoping to not uncover horror stories, I left with the card in hand. Excited to get some clothes, and finally treat Imani to some of the toys she had been begging for.

Her constant begging for all those shiny, fun things you see during ads got to me. Not being able to give her all she wanted made me yearn for me in life, yet knowing that it wasn't a necessity got me grounded.

As long as we had balanced meals, at least four times a week, I knew I was trying my best. The perks of working at a supermarket gave me reassurance her belly would always be filled.

"Ebony? Are you all good?" Cassie yelled from downstairs, waking me up from my day-dream. "Yes, yes. Coming." Closing the draw, I shoved the piece of paper into my pocket. Not before making sure his bead hadn't been moved in any way.

We are on good terms, yet I wouldn't know specifically how he'd react to a messy bed. Let alone me snoopy through his drawers and not only taking his card but his seemingly important letters or notes.

However how important can they be if they are scrunched up like a tissue which should be disposed of?

"Ready?"

I held Imani's hand, her backpack secure with snacks, a few toys and her stuffed animal for today. Pumba.

"Ready."
