"Good day, Mr Big Kitty. You're having lunch without me!"

Taehyun, munching his sandwich, almost choked at this loud and radiant greeting.

Jiggling their bed head, Beomgyu pulled the chair opposite him and fit themselves in the seat as if it was the usual thing to do.

The young man avoided their gaze, bread crumbles in his plate suddenly became his point of interest.

The fairy knew his deep secret.

And they could use it in anyways against him. Perhaps he should pre-empt the worst scenario— that was the most unnecessary thought he soon realized...

"May I have a bite?" The fairy leaned over the table, round eyes sparkling at the plate of food.

Taehyun didn't get it. He's a fucking lion. The fairy should fear his ferocity, bolt away from him, definitely not stepping into his personal space, playing a game of friendship with him.

A groan in Beomgyu's stomach startled both of them, the fairy pouted with pleading eyes. "You are not afraid of me." Taehyun resigned, willingly pushing the plate forward to their reach. The fairy gladly tore a part of the white bread to feed their hunger.

"Should I? Big kitty." Beomgyu chewed in content.

"I can take your life before you know it." Taehyun's eyes were dark when they narrowed at Beomgyu who was taking another slice but halted their action at his statement.

For someone who'd rather sacrificed his own freedom for the safety of others, that threat was nothing but a big fat lie– Beomgyu looked into the abyss of his pupils, their expression softened with a sympathetic smile. Within that blank silence, Taehyun felt like he was browsed through like an open book.

"A lion also protects his clan." Beomgyu said, leaving the bread and instead, filling Taehyun's emptied cup with hot tea from a pot.

Words that were lightweight yet comforting. He wasn't judged for shape-shifting into a lion, Beomgyu even appreciated his effort. Possibly, the fairy had never learnt to discriminate a life, unlike what had been taught around in human society.

Taehyun felt like letting out a breath that he didn't know how long or how much tension he had been holding. His exhale disarrayed the dancing steam from the drink, granting him a better sight at a smiley Beomgyu through the vapors.

"It's no fun always holding your butt tight. Oh, pancakes!" The fairy glowed at the new treats introduced by the pixies. More than eager to drizzle a pool of honey on top, Beomgyu cut it evenly into portions, forked one and shoved it against Taehyun's mouth.

He turned to the pixie for help and Hueningkai simply nodded and laughed a little before disappearing, leaving the man with the fairy. Beomgyu blinked with anticipation so Taehyun had no choice but opened his mouth, accepting the tremendous amount of sugar.

Someone was fearless. Taehyun admitted his defeat– a lion tamed by a fairy.

Another day passed by Taehyun sinking into all sources of knowledge related to forest fairies. Much to his assumption, books and research on a mythical creature were very limited.

Was he discouraged?

Absolutely not! The biologist was motivated to find out every detail of their temperament, every missing piece of the eco-bubble.

"The butterflies will be retrieved by tomorr-" Hueningkai twirled around his master for the good news and the latter hushed him.

Music of avant-garde infused the garden through a phonograph before him.
