Sun's rays began to filter into the room. It was only when he saw Yeonjun lying on the ground, bleeding from the gunshot wound, that Taehyun was able to regain full control of his body. He felt the curse lifting, back in his human form.
The officers were quick to take Lady M into custody this time. She knew that there was no escaping her fate this time and resigned herself to being taken away.
As for Taehyun, the arrest did not register with him as his attention was solely focused on Yeonjun. He was so taken aback by Yeonjun's sudden move.
"Get up," Taehyun said, his voice shaking. "I haven't forgiven you, but I can't just leave you here to die."
Yeonjun looked up at Taehyun, his eyes filled with pain and regret.
Taehyun wanted to scream at Yeonjun, to make him feel the same pain that he was feeling. But he couldn't bring himself to do it, not when Yeonjun took a bullet for him, even though he had made a terrible mistake at first.
Soobin's eyes lit up with an idea. "The tree of life. It has the power to heal any injury or ailment."
Taehyun looked at him, his eyes widened in surprise. He had heard of it from Beomgyu before, however his fairy didn't know where it was, as their memories were damaged from traumas caused by humans.
Soobin's suggestion seemed to be their only hope. "We have to go to the tree of life," Taehyun said, his voice urgent. "Beomgyu doesn't know where it is. Can you take us there, Soobin?"
The blond fairy nodded. "But I can't do it alone."
"My pixies can help." Taehyun replied and Hueningkai acted on his request.
"Pixies, assemble!!" Hueningkai shouted to the air. All of his pixie friends came to surround them, linking hands in a circle, ready to teleport them to the location. Soobin closed his eyes and focused, drawing on his memory of the tree of life. The circle of pixies began to glow with a soft, golden light.
In a spark of moment, they found themselves in a dense forest, air buzzing with magic. In the center of the clearing stood an enormous tree towering over the green ocean. Its trunk was thick and gnarled, and its branches spread out in all directions, covered in shimmering leaves of vibrant green. Each leaf seemed to pulse with energy.
Taehyun looked up at its branches, he could see that they stretched up towards the sky, as if reaching towards the heavens themselves.
"This is it," Soobin said. "The tree of life."
They rushed to the tree, with Yeonjun's condition getting worse by the moment. Soobin explained that the tree was a symbol of hope and renewal for all those who believed.
Most importantly, only fairies could communicate with it. Taehyun nodded in understanding as he unloaded Yeonjun below the tree and watched Soobin closing his eyes, hands resting on the trunk which began to glow. However, just as the light enveloped Yeonjun's body, it seemed to falter and weaken.
"What's happening?" Taehyun worried that the magic wasn't working.
Soobin's face was creased with concentration as they tried to maintain connection with the tree. "We're losing faith," their voice strained. "The tree needs our faith to work its magic."
Taehyun had heard about the Tinkerbell effect. "We have to believe," He said firmly. "We have to believe in the magic of this world. Only then can we save Yeonjun."
Slowly, one by one, all the fairies, pixies and Taheyun himself shut their eyes and prayed.
And then, the tree began to glow with an even brighter light, its magic amplified by the power of their belief. The light enfolded Yeonjun once more, glowing with a fierce intensity.
