One being oblivion was enough tragedy, not to mention both of them heated up slowly. What they failed to notice was the conference between pixies to brainstorm ideas for their precious boss and fairy. They even debated on what outfits to put Beomgyu on. The pixies were satisfied by the way Taehyun couldn't avert his gaze from Beomgyu.
The floral dress in baby blue with transparent sleeves adorned Beomgyu a bit too well, proving them the ambassador of the season. Their bare back was revealed and Taehyun always found it magically gorgeous where a pair of exquisite wings was connected to their smooth porcelain skin.
He also kind of fancied this location– with dainty white daisies occupying the grassland before their picnic mat, the entire place smelled just like Beomgyu.
Daisy represents innocence, joy and hope, which very much suited the fairy in Taehyun's opinion. Surrounded by their spiritual flower also gave him courage to open up–
"I never meant to take advantage of you. You probably didn't wanna go through that with someone like me. I'm so sorry for yesterday." Taehyun dropped his apology after weighing it on his shoulders for the day.
"Someone like you?" Beomgyu followed quickly, frowning. What bothered them wasn't their heat but the way Taehyun addressed himself.
"An ugly beast like me." He mumbled. That's right. That's what others would describe him if they ever got to know about his true self.
"Why do you say that!?" Beomgyu blurted out, startling him and the birds around. "It's not your fault. You aren't even ugly. You're a cute lion and I know you love everyone. You love us. So are we, we love you, Hyun." They looked into Taehyun's eyes with sincerity.
With that, Taehyun didn't even have the capacity to react to his new nickname, the feeling of being understood flooded his emotional chamber. He just noticed how much he had been holding in all those years and it started to overflow. Behind that cold armor was a boy who never wanted to be abandoned.
By completely surrendering to his own weakness, he got rid of shame. He felt like he could be starkly honest with Beomgyu.
Unexpectedly, Taehyun burst into tears from the epiphany. Though it surprised Beomgyu, the fairy didn't hesitate to wrap their arms around him, engulfing him by their warmth and calm scent, encouraging the man to drill closer into their embrace.
It felt so good to be understood, or was it the physical intimacy he rarely had? Or could be both, all foreign to him but he decided to welcome it, just like what he had been guided by his spirit.
"I-I haven't heard of something like this since my parents–" He sobbed into Beomgyu's shoulder and murmured, "–forgot about me..." Taehyun was too young when everything happened. Though his parents were still with him in the Ark, they had their lives as pigeons and Taehyun grew up missing care from the adults.
The fairy patted his head before pulling out from the hug, making the man disappointed before something was gently hooked onto his brown locks, his hand immediately reaching for it– a daisy flower that Beomgyu had put on him.
He recalled the books–Their spirit flower usually associates with the highest form of love they can offer.
"My Adonis, don't cry. You have been working so hard for us... Honestly, I have never met a man who cares about other species to this extent. I think you're amazing!" Beomgyu cheered him up, holding his hands. Even the animals originally attracted by the berries also nuzzled his arms, comforting him with their fluffiness.
Even though he relied on his logical brain mostly, it always struck him when everything seemed to be closely connected.
For the rest of the day, they actually spent time outside the flying Ark. Beomgyu had sprinkled their fairy dust onto the man, and they dived through the cotton clouds hand in hand, admiring the miniature of lands and water below them, wondering about the net worth of his worries in this big big world.
The experience was relieving– chilly air hitting him and Beomgyu, contrasting the warmth and security coming from their intertwined hands. Definitely not a fan of story tales but Taehyun so felt like they were Peter Pan and Wendy. He hoped this moment could last forever, the night that separated them would never come.
A blinding light reflected by the metal coating of his Ark beamed at them as the sun gradually sunk to the horizon. The sunset before them was painfully beautiful, a scene to be imprinted into their heads for as long as they lived.
He knew he had to let go of their hand despite his will so he made it quick before he regretted it. "Thank you so much for being by my side. Even though I don't wanna go, I have to–" The smile that he had throughout the flight faded away. Since when he had become Cinderella, stressed by the ticking clock.
"It's alright. I'm always here for you." Beomgyu played with his hair, brushing his soft strands as if grooming a kitty, the latter immediately leaned into it, savoring their touches. The action eased him so quickly that it astonished Taehyun.
He tried to look up, matching their dark brown eyes still glowing before dusk approached in every way, the fairy returned with the same affection and a reassuring smile.
In that split second, Taehyun swore he found love.
Whether in his human form or the beast, Beomgyu would look at him with the same fond eyes.
Whatever broken inside him was pieced together by the power of love– a strong feeling, a calling for him to express it– so he surged forward to capture their lips.
It was a light peck just to test the water, he backed off in a flash to look for any hints of discomfort. "Am I taking it too fast?" He scratched the back of his neck, pink dusted his face and he blamed it on the twilight.
For him, probably not too fast since the boy in him, the lion in him had yearned for love in years of isolation. His heart rate didn't seem to moderate even after Beomgyu shook their head.
"I-I like it." The fairy shyly muttered under their breath.
"Hmm?" The man didn't catch it so Beomgyu cupped his cheeks and kissed him instead, making Taehyun's eyes shot wide.
While being ecstatic, Taehyun commanded the lion in him–
You must remember Beomgyu. You must protect them.
(A/N: Sorry for ditching you guys for a while. It's a few chapters before it ends so you won't suffer long. I guess the upcoming angst will motivate me to update this book hehe)
