In a clear field was a small cottage. A mother and a son lived together, taking care of their croplands and living peacefully."Mother, I'm going out for a run. I'll be back before sunset like usual." The boy was already heading out the door as he called out to his mother.
"Be careful Vin!" The mother looked out the window as her boy shifted into a wolf and run off into the forest.
It's been 17 years since I left that place, and he has grown up from a baby to a young man. He looks so much like his father that I thought it was him I was seeing sometimes. I was so lucky and thankful that the owner of this place left it to me. I walked around inside the cottage as memories of the past flooded my mind.
The owner was an old man and he was living on his own, his wife passed and he didn't have anyone else. I was 2 months pregnant, it was hard and I couldn't stop to rest or eat until I truly gave out. That is until Adam found me, he took care of me and let me rest in his cottage.
I didn't want to trouble him but he insisted to stay, I helped around as much as I could but he told me to just sit down and care for the baby. There was a village close by, Adam quickly went and brought the doctor and nurses to help deliver the baby. I rarely went to the village, only to trade some of our crops and buy the essentials I need.
Adam passed 2 years ago, he grew a place in my heart and took a piece with him. He was the only one that gave me kindness in such a long time. Vin didn't take it well when Adam was gone. He was like a father figure to him, they both got along so well.
I already told Vin about his actual father and everything else about why I ran away and he took it a lot better I thought. He didn't want to meet him, well not yet but soon I know fate will bring us all to meet once again.
As another day passes by I'm quietly sitting down and enjoying the clear view of the trees and fields in front of me by the window. I hold a small empty bottle in hand and tuck it into my pocket. I quickly hear the door open and close as my son rushes towards me.
"Mother! They're here! I saw them asking the people in the village!" Vin hurriedly says, looking tense but still in control as his eyes turn dark.
We hear a knock on the door. I let out a deep breath and look at Vin calmly, "Vin do you want to be king... Alpha King of the wolves?" He only just stares at me. "If not then quickly go run out the back door and I'll stall them. But Vin, you are the heir and it's up to you to take that role. I ran away from everything because I knew if I stayed we won't be happy, and will let our past consume us and it will consume you. Your father... I don't know if he would change for the better, maybe I made a mistake but what's done is already done." I reach out a caress his cheek softly, Vin's eyes soften and takes my hand.
"I won't become like the king, you have given me enough love that made me strong as I am. I won't run away, I'll be with you every way Ma." Before I could say anything Vin rushes past me to the door and opens it.
The guards look startled by the abrupt opening but more as they keep familiarly looking at Vin. "Indeed you really look just like him when he was young." One of the guards spoke. I already recognised him as he is the king's gamma. Vin only stares at him coldly, ready to charge at him when more guards on either side take o hold of him holding him back.
"Vin!" They all look towards me and the gamma smirks as he gets closer.
"Finally we found you....Luna." He grabs me forcefully by the arm and drags me away from the cottage with Vin barely moving from the silver chains on him following behind me.
As we approach the castle I only take a glance at it. It feels only yesterday that I was here but many years already passed and nothing but awful memories coming back to haunt me. We arrive in the throne room and not once did I look up. Each breath I take became harder to breathe and I felt a small bit of discomfort in me getting bigger.
"You finally returned, I've been searching the both of you. I'll admit it took a lot longer but what matters you are here now." The cold voice spoke in the room.
No one said anything, only silence remained. The loud growl echoed, "Look up mate!" I slowly looked straight onward at him. Nothing changed, he looks as though he can tear anyone up in seconds. One thing is, he ain't happy.
"I have nothing to say to you." Calmly I spoke to him. Holding my head high with much confidence or trying not to let fear show.
"Nothing... Nothing! You left and took my son! You truly are greedy like the rest of the humans!" Ah did I forget to mention I am human and he hated humans because he says we are useless existence. What's more, he couldn't believe I was his mate and he hated every single bit of it. So what did he do well...he tried to kill me many times but his wolf always intervened to save me. Locking me up in the dungeon and barely given any food. Though somehow I was in his bed and he... well that's the rest of it. I'll say it wasn't pleasant.
As he kept muttering on about hating humans, I looked behind, "I'm sorry Vin, I hope you'll forgive me but I can't stay here and live through this. I want you to know I wish I could see you grow more each day..." I started to cough and all was quiet except my cough becoming rough. I start spitting out blood and fall to my knees. Vin comes close as the king starts to descend from the throne at a fast pace.
"Ma, you didn't!" My eyes become hazy as I take out a small bottle and hold it close. "I love you, Vin with all my heart please be strong ok. You kept me going..." I drift off into the darkness letting the bottle roll from my hand as my son hugs me tightly, crying out to me.
'...I found some happiness in my life and that was enough.'
Vin Pov
As I stare down at my mother's lifeless body. My so called father kneels on the other with a look of despair and regret. "Oh, Talia please no... what have I done?"
He reaches out and I protectively cover her. Pulling back and growling at him as my wolf was surfacing. "You don't get to touch her, you regret it now huh? This won't be forgiven or forgotten." I put my mother on the ground and lunged in wolf form at the king. Ripping him into shreds as he didn't have enough time to defend against my attacks.
I transform back into my human form with blood covering me entirely. The guards are stunned with fear but I don't pay any mind to them. I pick up my mother and hold her close. The beta and gamma coming forward bow down. "We bow before the new Alpha King!"
The other guards follow to bow down as I only look ahead with eyes filled with nothingness.
