A FEW HOURS has passed since the man had started cooking, mix and matching with the ingredients available—which was not much. Yet he managed to rack his brain for a simple recipe he can make, hoping it will satisfy the girl.
Jay rested his hands on the edge of the counter as he finally took a break, cracking his bones as relief engulfed his body. His eyes caught on the relaxed figure on the couch.
Munhye was seen sleeping soundly whilst her arms wrapped a pillow, pulling it close to her chest. The sun casted on her small frame and he noticed how her eyes twitched under the beaming light. Jay walked over to the wall and pressed a button causing the blinds to close itself. He took a blanket and covered her with it, gently tucking her in, afraid to wake the latter.
After he made sure she was comfortable, he proceeded with his cooking.
The girl squirmed in her sleep, mumbling non-coherent words as she jolted out of her sleep, feeling a sudden surge of pain from her hip. She hissed as the blanket slid down from her shoulders, placing her hand on her bruised hip.
"Are you okay?" She heard a voice asked as Jay knelt down in front of the couch.
"Just peachy." She answered and Jay eyed her, not believing her at all. "If so then why did you jump like that just now?" He countered, raising his brow.
Munhye looked at him in the eyes, his dark pigmented orbs stared at her with suspicion and she sighed. "I might have fallen on the stairs a few days ago which caused my hip to bruise. That's the reason why I'm on break right now." She caved in, transparently explaining him about the recent episodes.
Jay pressed his lips together.
It looked like he had something to say but he stood up silently instead and headed to the kitchen. Munhye frowned. Was he upset?"Lunch is ready." Jay informed.
Munhye limped her way to the kitchen and sat on the stool, taking small peeks at the man as she tried to figure out his current emotions. But it was difficult to do so since his back was facing her and whenever he turned around, he would avoid her eyes.
Dejectedly, she took a bite of the meal. He had cooked a colorful Mac and cheese this time. Various of vegetables embellished the meal, resulting a colorful meal. Unsurprisingly, it was delicious.
She wondered. Where did he learnt to cook? Is he just good at following recipes or is he just talented in cooking?
Her questions was left unanswered as Jay finally joined her on the dining table, leaving the dirty dishes in the sink. "Is it good?" He asked.
Munhye nodded, "It is." She chewed, covering her mouth.
"That's great."There was a peculiar lull in their conversation. Jay, who normally strikes a conversation about a random topic was eating his meal wordlessly, confusing the girl. She paused. Why was he being so quiet?
