That'll Show Him

Ever since our last conversation, Pedro and I have only spoken once or twice. Over the course of a week, either we made small talk on set before our scenes, or he wouldn't even look at me, which had me all sorts of confused. I thought we were getting along fine until he started to walk right past me.

I was standing behind one of the sets watching them record a scene, I was bored and didn't know what else to do. I had a cup of coffee in my hand, it was my second cup of the day. I felt a presence right next to me all of a sudden. "You're Magnolia Danvers, right?" The stranger asked.

I turned my head. "Yes?"

He offered me his hand. "I'm Jack." I shook his hand hesitantly. I was confused as to why this person randomly decided to talk to me.

"So what do you do here, Jack?" I asked before taking a sip of my latte.

"I'm part of the camera crew."

"Ah, how long have you been doing that?"

He crossed his arms above his chest. "About...4 years."

"You've worked with a lot of great actors then, huh?"

"Definitely."

"And you've worked with some bad ones too." I continued. He nodded, unsure of where I was going with this. "Tell me, Jack. Is there anything that I need to get better at?"

"I'd say," he turned his body to my direction and looked me up and down. "You're a natural."

Soon after that he had to get back to work, and I smiled to myself as I looked around and saw that Pedro had been watching the whole time.

That'll show him, I thought.

I was called onto set for a scene so I quickly disposed of my coffee before heading over. The scene was between Pedro's character and mine.

Dahlia decided to cancel a date she had with an old college classmate to see Matthew at his house before he moved to Germany. She helped him pack some last minute things, then they ordered pizza and drank and talked about all the good memories they had together. Since all of Matthews furniture had already been taken, the two had to sit on the floor. He looked through one of the boxes labeled 'living room' and took out his record player along with an Elvis Presley  vinyl. He set it all up and played 'Can't Help Falling in Love".

He took my hand and lifted me up, then he stunned his arm around my waist while his other hand held mine. This was the closest Pedro and I had ever gotten, but I had to concentrate on the fact that this was purely acting. When I placed my right hand on his bicep, I could feel his muscles tensing under the navy blue shirt he was wearing.

We danced to the music that faintly played through the record player. The two of us looked into each others eyes so intensely that it felt like the rest of the world melted away. Then our faces inched closer together. Any closer and our lips would've touched, if it weren't for the "Cut!" That came from the director. "Good work guys, let's continue this tomorrow." She said.

Dahlia and Matthew weren't supposed to kiss in that scene. But I had to admit, there was a tiny part of me that wished they did. As soon as the director said we were free to go, Pedro let go of me and walked out. That was the first interaction we've had in days and it was over in a second. Why was he in such a hurry to get away from me?

Without thinking I followed him out to where all the trailers were parked. For the first time I saw the lights on in his. "You alright?" Jack asked from behind me. I jolted at the sudden sound of his voice, it was so quiet outside. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."

"No it's okay." I reassured him. "I left something in my trailer that I need to take home with me.."

"Oh." He responded. "This might be awkward timing but... I'd love to take you out sometime. If you'll let me."

As I watched Pedro's shadow moving around in his trailer I thought, why not? I needed to stop thinking about the roller coaster of emotions that he keeps putting me through and focus on anything else. A tall brown-haired camera crew guy with pretty green eyes would do. "How about Friday night?"

He smiled. "That works for me."

We exchanged numbers and I made my way home. I had a date in two day's time, I should have been thinking about that but I couldn't. I couldn't shake the feeling that Pedro was angry at me, but what for? If anything, I should be mad at him.

I decided to call for reinforcements. Chloe always have the best advice, so I told her everything. "Hmm..." she said after I had finally finished explaining all the details. "Maybe" she started, "it has nothing to do with you?"

My eyes drooped. "Chlo."

"Well I don't see why he'd be mad at you, you didn't do anything. He's probably dealing with something personal."

I hadn't thought about that. Perhaps I was just overthinking and mistakenly made it all about me. Apparently I have a habit of doing that.

Chloe's words did help a little bit, so I was put at ease, at least for the time being. I had a date to prepare for. Meaning we had to pick the time and place, and I had to choose an outfit.

We had picked a very exclusive restaurant in the Upper East Side. It was a little bit of a drive but I heard that this place was very hidden from the paparazzi. It was like almost like a speakeasy.

I hadn't been on a date like this in almost a year. I had sworn off relationships since my last boyfriend, James. But a date every now and then was nice. I also rarely went out with men I worked with, but I figured I would give this a shot. What could go wrong?
