"They'll be fine, Mellie." Dad says, patting me on the back because he doesn't know how to comfort people.
We're sitting in the hospital waiting room. I squeeze the teddy bears I bought for Adam and Chase tighter to my chest. Chase is undergoing surgery on his foot at this very second, and Adam is still unconscious.
Bree and Tasha went to the cafeteria to get some coffee, Leo is taking a nap, and Mr. Davenport is in the bathroom, probably fixing his hair.
The doctors said no one could see Adam just yet, and after Chase's surgery we will be able to see him.
"Davenport family?" One of the nerdy looking (Yeah I know, I should talk) doctors comes out into the waiting room. Leo jumps up, awake.
"That's us. Actually, I'm a Dooley but my mom married a Davenport, and she's dating a Davenport and he's her father so technically we're all sorta Davenports."
The doctor gives Leo a look. "Okay. I just wanted to say that Chase's surgery went well, and he'll be waking up soon. Drowsy yet from the anesthesia, so just be prepared."
"Wait, hold the boat. We get to see Chase drowsy?" Leo asks.
"Um, yes." The doctor replies. He looks like he doesn't have enough time for this conversation. I don't blame him; that's how everyone is when they talk to Leo.
"Dude! That's almost as good as seeing him drunk! C'mon, Mellie! Don't you want to see your boyfriend practically drunk?"
"He's not drunk, just drowsy." I say. The doctor gives me a look of thanks. "And of course I want to see him practically drunk." Leo and I take off for Chase's room and I hear Dad apologizing in the background.
"Chase?" I duck my head in his doorway.
Chase is sitting up in bed, looking around. His eyes are wide and he blinks slowly as he sees Leo and I. "Hiya, guys!"
"Hello, Chase." Leo has a mischievous look on his face as he pulls up a chair next to Chase's bed. I do the same. "How ya doin', big guy?"
Chase gives Leo a big grin, then looks over to me. "Hey, Mellie Fish? Get it? Like a jelly fish?" Chase laughs. "How was the helicopter ride? I don't 'member most of it."
"Did he just call you...? Oh my God I need to record this." Leo laughs and hoots and takes out his phone.
"Um, it was good?"
"Who drove? I hope Adam didn't. I wouldn't trust Adam to push a shopping cart." Chase snorts like it's the funniest thing ever. "So, Mellie Fish. How's life?"
"Good. How's life with you, Chase...y...Poo?"
"Chasey Poo. Classic, classic." Leo's practically falling out of his chair laughing.
"Finer than the finest diamond. Finer than you." He pokes me in my collarbone. "Shine bright like a diamond." Chase starts singing.
"Oh gosh." I mutter.
"Fine light in the beautiful sea, I choose to be happy..." Chase stands up.
"Think you should stand up?" I ask.
"Oh, I'm fine." He grabs my hands and pulls me up. "You and I, you and I, we're like diamonds in the sky."
"Chase, you're going to fall over." I grab his shoulders and steady him before he careens into his IV. He's only on one foot, because his other one has a cast on it. "Chase!" I grab him around the waist and steer him back towards his bed.
"No, Mellie Fish! Don't be a fun wrecker! So shine bright...you and I! We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky!"
"Shine bright like a diamond!" Leo laughs from behind his camera.
"Shine bright like a diamond!" Chase echoes. "Shine bright..." He stops singing and sits back down, staring at the door, where Dad just walked in.
"OMG!" He squeals like a little girl. "Mellie, grab me my autograph book!"
"Why?" I ask.
"Because Rihanna just walked in!" He squeals again. "My singing must have attracted her!"
Dad's eyes go wide as he is compared to Rihanna.
"Um, Chase-"
"She knows my name!"
"Chase, it's just me. Matthew. Matthew Hancock, Mellie's dad."
"No, you're not Matthew. You're not scary like Matthew. You're Rihanna!" Chase turns to me. "Mel, where's my autograph book?"
I dig into the bedside table where I find a notepad and a pen, then hand them to Chase. Chase gives them to my dad. "Make them out to Chase Davenport, please."
Dad looks at me. "What do I do?" He mouths.
"Just sign it, Rihanna."
"I don't even know who Rihanna is, Mellie!" He whisper yells.
"Mel! Rihanna know your name too!" Chase squeals again. Dad scribbles on the notepad and hands it to Chase.
"I'm sorry, I gotta go." Dad nods and runs out of the room, almost knocking over a poor little nurse.
Chase laughs and shows me his "autograph book".
In block letters, Dad wrote:
TO CHASE
FROM:
RIHANNA
"This is the best thing ever. As soon as they let me out this thing is going in that frame on my desk."
"Chase, a picture of me is on your desk."
"Mellie, don't be so selfish. Rihanna gets that frame now."
OMG THIS WAS FUNNY! This was so hilarious to write! Poor Chase! Any guys out there reading this? Imagine comparing your girlfriend's "scary" dad to Rihanna.
LOL! And Leo got the whole thing on tape!
LOL I can't stop laughing!
Love yas!
