"Research has shown there are levels of compatibility of a spirit and a host. This can grow over time in life as the host gains more experiences and uses the spirit more willingly." As misses Roberts speaks, Samantha is feverishly writing it in a bright pink notebook. Some listen, some don't. Some take notes, some don't. Yet Samantha was too curious to ignore such a lesson.
"This chart here demonstrates levels of compatibility." Misses Roberts hits a button on her remote and a picture of a person appears. Their feet are normal, but going upwards you can see some of the changes a spirit can make.
"At the lowest compatibility, zero to twenty percent. There is a familiarity through shared memories and actions from the spirit and host, as well as the ability to speak and transfer knowledge." The legs however seemed more toned than anything on the body, and they were oddly hairier as well which was odd to Samantha.
"From twenty to forty percent, we can see changes to the host body as the spirit offers its strength, features, and abilities. These can be seen in speed, power, vision, or other senses being enhanced." The torso next seemed to be wrapped in an odd light, one that likely was drawn to show the color the spirit had in its living form.
"Forty to sixty percent of we can see the spirit begin to take its old form, however, this is called a shadow. The reason for this is that the light demonstrated here has no physical property as the bond must be advanced further. Most people sit between this range, and the next one." The light surrounding the head was much brighter, and harder to see through.
"From sixty to eighty, the spirit can call upon any of its old extremities, natural abilities, or skills from prior life and hosts. This bond is the safest but not strongest to have as it protects the host, enhances them, without the risk of the next range." Samantha swallows a lump in her throat as the next section appears. The brain was surrounded by the light of the spirit.
"From eighty to one hundred percent bond, the spirit may hijack the brain, and control the host as if it were their own body along with everything from the previous bonds. This can cause psychological issues as the original host is not in control but likely will have to bear witness to what the spirit does. This is usually the range dark spirits reside in." Samantha writes her notes on the diagram slower now, realizing the capabilities Rava has over her. Yet he's never once attempted something like that. Then again not to her knowledge. Samantha raises her hand.
"Yes, Samantha?" Misses Roberts asks and points to her.
"If the spirit has complete control of the brain. Does that mean the spirit can alter their memory to not remember anything the spirit does?" Samantha's question grips her soul, as a possible realization comes to mind. Misses Roberts smiles.
"Very inquisitive of you. Yes, it has been shown that it is possible but difficult for a spirit to do as similar actions while the host is active could trigger the memories to resurface." Misses Roberts informs and Samantha's heart sinks into her chest.
Miss Roberts continues with the lesson from that point on but Samantha's pencil doesn't move. She herself does not move. Her rapid breaths that cause a quick rise and fall of her shoulders is the only motion she makes.
"Rava, you wouldn't would you?" Samantha asks in her head.
"I don't have a reason to." Something about Rava's answer doesn't sit well with her.
"Have you done it before?" There is a long silence from Rava that scares Samantha.
"No, I haven't erased your memory," Rava speaks clearly and calmly.
"Specific choice of words."
"Whether you believe me or not is irrelevant." While that may be true it doesn't make what she's heard any less concerning. The information sits with her the rest of the class and even as the class ends as she wanders the hallway.
