Chapter 10

After a second of realization I pulled away from Soda. I sat there in shock and just looked at Soda.

“No” I said while looking at Soda.

“No what do you mean no” Soda said as he looked at me with a confused look.

“It can’t be like this” I said as I pulled myself off of Soda.

“Why not?” Soda asked.

“Because, everything with you and Sandy just happened.” I said as I sat up on the bed.

“So,” Soda said while looking me in the eyes.

“So I like you Soda, and I don’t want you just to like me because you’re hurting. I want you to like me because of me, not just the idea of someone comforting you. 

“But don’t you get it Annie, I’m in love with you!” Soda said while staring at me with his beautiful dark brown eyes.

“What but-” I was cut off by Soda.

“I’ve been in love with you Annie, for a long time actually.” Soda said, still staring me in the eyes.

“Then why did you never say anything?” I asked Soda with a confused look.

“Because I was also in love with Sandy,” Soda said, smiling at me with his charming smile.

“I can’t do this Soda” I said while getting up. 

“Do what?” Soda said while grabbing my hand, but I quickly pulled my hand away.

“I’ve always been a choice to you Soda, and now that Sandy left you I’m just your next choice.” I said while getting up and storming out of Soda’s room.

“What’s wrong?” Darry asked as I slammed Soda’s door.

“Nothing, now Steve, can you drive me home?” I asked Steve as I put my shoes on.

“Um, yeah I guess” Steve said while getting up off the couch. 

“Anns, where are you going?” Soda asked as me and Steve headed out the door.

“Away from you!” I yelled back at Soda and slammed the door.

I got into Steve’s car and I just started crying as Steve drove away from the Curtis house. Steve asked me what happened and so I explained to him about Soda kissing me and how I was always Soda’s second choice. Steve always understood these kinds of things when I would tell him about them. 

We got to my house and I asked Steve to come inside. Steve wanted to cheer me up and so we played cards, ate cake, and then watched a movie.

Steve always knew how to cheer me up, especially when I was jealous of Sandy.

Steve fell asleep while the two of us laid on the floor together all cuddled up in blankets. I was laying there watching Mickey Mouse with Steve laying all cuddled up to me. When Soda comes in the front door.

“Hey Ann-” But Soda stopped talking when he saw Steve laying on the floor with me.

“What are you doing here?” I asked Soda in a kinda tired voice.

“What’s Steve doing here?” Soda asked while looking at me and Steve in a pissed off look.

“He was trying to cheer me up, after talking to you.” I said in a sarcastic voice. Steve started to move around in his sleep and moved in closer to me. 

“I can’t believe this!” Soda said in a sort of yelling voice.

“Hey Soda, when did you get here?” Steve said while lifting his head up and looking at Soda.

“Oh you just stay out of this Steve!” Soda yelled at Steve.

“Don’t yell at him!” I said while getting up off the floor.

“I just wanted to talk about this but clearly you've already moved on!” Soda yelled in my face.

“Moved on! MOVED ON!!!” I yelled back at Soda. “I”VE WAITED FOR YOU FOR 6 YEARS. I’VE BEEN IN LOVE WITH YOU SINCE I WAS 10. AND YOU THINK I’VE MOVED ON!!!” I yelled at Soda with tears streaming out of my eyes.

“Anns” Soda said in a much more called down voice, as he reached to touch my arm.

“Just get out, GET OUT!!” I yelled at Soda while shoving him towards the door.

I closed the door as soon as Soda got out and I collapsed to the ground crying. Steve got up and came over to me.

“Annie,” Steve said in a calm voice while wrapping his arm around me.

“I can’t believe I just yelled at him like that.” I said to Steve in a soft voice.

“It’s ok Annie, it’s ok.” Steve said in a calm soothing voice while I cried into his shoulder.
