"Ghost to Price how copy, We made it to the spot setting up the tent right now.". Ghost took the hand off his intercom again, turning around to look at you. "Were is my tent? We only have one". Looking around in hope to find another one for you to sleep in he just let out a raspy chuckle. "We only have one, need to keep the cover as good as possible. This is a mission, not a camping trip". You swallowed deep, nodding and starting to set up the tent. Ghost watched for a few seconds before wandering off to collect some wood. Talking to Price in the process. As far as you could understand in your dazed mind, you had air support close in case of emergencies. They still have no intel about the were bouts of the weapons stash, just a map that showed the area including the buildings.
Ghost returned just as you set up the final hook that would hold up the tent. It was a spacey area, good enough to have two people sleep inside without having to sandwich all night. "Good Job, get ready we are going to head out in 20". The bright light of his torch blinded you, it was already late at night. Having walked all day to get to this spot to not attract any unwanted early attention from the enemies. Your legs were tired already burning from standing all day, but showing it was no true option. Ghost didn't show any signs of tiredness, still acting as rested as he was just as the plane took off earlier in the morning.
Setting up your night gear, Ghost turned off the torch not to blind you further while putting on the night vision googles. Another part of tortures walking started, heading down the hills that kept you good cover towards the suspicious area you were about to investigate. The room around you and your partner was quiet, no one wanting nor dared to say a word as the voices of near by enemies came closer.
Ghost signalled you to stop, pulling out the suppressed pistol that was held on his thigh by his holster. Throwing a few more signs you grabbed yours taking out one guard while Ghost took care of the other. It went smooth so far.
hiding the bodies from bare sight you continued to follow Ghost, just now noticing how well build he was yet how soft and soundless his steps were. Floating like a Ghost, hunting your shadows while you expected nothing but to see another day. There was a good reason he was so feared, and just now you noticed how lucky you were to be able to fight on his side.
Just to note on the side his bottom was seemingly also as well built as the rest of him.
He stopped, almost making you run into his back. Thick veins signed his forearms that were slightly displayed from him moving his arm up.
"Four guards ahead, we move around them, too risky to take them out. Stay quiet and look ahead". He continued to move, bringing you safely to the houses down the hill. Turning off the night googles you were met with the warmth of the street lamps, shining slightly through the windows on the buildings.
The pistol held firmly in your hand you tried your best to keep Ghost cover, while the older opened a door to one of the main buildings. Taking out one of the guards in a split second. "Ghost to Bravo 0-6, I see the stash how to continue?"
"retreat and return to the camp, engage tomorrow". A shimmer of hope spreads inside of you. knowing that you could get some rest before fighting against an army of armed guys. "Copy that Captain. Retreating right now".
Now all this from earlier again, walking quietly up the hill, and through the desert sand that you were sure you'd find in all pockets and folds later. Yet again no comment from Ghost, no sight of distress or tiredness.
You, on the other hand, tried to keep your legs steady and the heavy breathing as quiet as possible.
Back by the tent, he turned around to face you, waiting for a few seconds before engaging in another conversation. "Go to bed i'll take the first watch, in case anyone followed. You look like you could need it". Nodding towards his direction, you followed his words, taking off the heavy gear that laid on your shoulders. The pain that was laying in your limbs eased almost instantly. Just leaving a sore feeling in the muscles.
Ghost watched you take the gear off, watching how flawlessly you took care of it. It was no stare that you saw as inappropriate. He wasn't staring, just watching.
Careful to not break the tent you slipped into your sleeping bag, still wearing the pants and shirt to keep your body covered, in case Ghost did come to sleep at night.
A ruffling sound was heard next to you, waking you up from the sleep that had knocked you out almost instantly.
A warmth broke the cold desert air, the body that felt so warm next to your own now falling into a laying position. Staying there probably too tired to even move the slightest bit.
Ghost didn't try to wake you, most likely already aware that you are not asleep any more. The sun wasn't out yet only the moon lying low on the night sky. As Simon got comfortable on his side, you stood up getting outside the tent to keep watch.
Would he sleep with the mask? Maybe it was better for you to stay out so he could catch a breath and not have to smell that stinky mask any longer.
Taking the tent cover off the roof, you pulled it in front of the entrance to stop the blowing sand from getting inside and block the sun that now started to raise behind the cover of the hills.
The wind got worse by the minutes, blowing sand in your eyes, making it almost impossible to keep them open. A hand reached through the slit of the tent, handing you a balaclava and googles which you thankfully took. "Its a spare one I have on me. Come back inside before the storm get even worse." Ghost voice was raspy, indicating that he had indeed slept the few hours.
Pulling the balaclava over your head, followed by the googles that you could have mistaken for ski googles you slip back inside. Covering the entrance again in hope to cover you and the now again laying Ghost as best as you could. It didn't help well, as enough sand to still blew inside. Now even more thankfully for the cover ghost has handed you.
"Ghost to Bravo 0-6, we are stuck in a sandstorm at this second. How to engage further".
"bravo 0-6 to Ghost I copy. Engage, use the storm for good cover. Protect eyes and airways on your way. Ready to receive location of the tent. exfil will be available tonight."
"Copy that captain, engaging through the storm, signal is out". It was stupid to go through the storm with all the heavy gear. But as Price had said it gave good cover. Making your and Ghost almost disappear dressed in beige camouflage colours.
"Get your weapons ready. we are leaving in an hour."
Ghost met your eyes, his looking tired and annoyed. It was the most emotion you had got out of him even if it was rather negative.
_________
Glad Ghost's cake didn't alert the enemies. Could have gone bad real fast
