Meeting

My suspension was nearly up. I was due back to school on Monday. Todays Friday so I had a meeting with the Mr Richards at 2pm. I got ready and went downstairs. Mom was actually sober. Not high not drunk. Nothing. Kiara was at the table eating breakfast
Kiara: morning Tommy
Thomas: hi kee mom you have a meeting with the Mr Richards today at 2. Kelly's coming too.
Mom: okay. I'll be there
Thomas: I'm gonna go to the firehouse and maybe see Jay.
Kiara: I wanna see Jay
Mom: okay go get your shoes
I went to the medicine basket.
Thomas: mom I'm still out of meds
Mom: I'll pick some up
Thomas: okay remember 2pm
Mom: yeah
Thomas: bye
Kiara: bye mommy
We made my way to the firehouse. Squad was out. We went inside and saw Matt and herrmann
Matt: well if it isn't mini Severide and the Princess
Thomas: hey. Where is Kelly?
Matt: they're on a call they should be back soon
Thomas: okay
Matt: back to school Monday
Thomas: yep I have a meeting today.
Matt: that's good. Keep out of trouble kid.
Thomas: I'll try
Matt: that's all we ask
Thomas: we're gonna see Jay so can you remind Uncle Kelly that he has to be at the school at 2 please?
Matt: sure. You want me to drop you?
Thomas: No it's fine. We'll walk.
We said bye to everyone at the station.
We walked to the district picking up doughnuts on the way. I gave a box to Trudy
Trudy: your my favourite person right now
Thomas: thanks can you buzz us up.
Trudy: let me walk you up so I can make sure they're not working a case.
Thomas: okay
We walk up to the bullpen and Trudy goes in first
Trudy: double trouble
We walk in
Thomas: brought doughnuts
All: yayyy
Kiara: Jay!
She ran up and gave him a hug
Jay: hiya munchkin
Kiara: I missed you
Jay: I missed you too. what's up trouble?
Thomas: meeting with the principal today
Jay: maybe you can ask for help. Get your mom to ask them to put a plan in place that will help you
Thomas: they won't. They don't even have a special needs person
Jay: good luck kid
Thomas: I'm gonna need it
Hank stepped out of his office
Kiara ran and jumped into his arms
Hank: Trouble
I walked to his office.
Thomas: yeah
Hank: I hear you have a meeting today
Thomas: yeah
Hank: it will be fine
Thomas: I know. Jay told me to try get them to make a plan to help like he did.
Hank: that's a good idea. What times your meeting?
Thomas: 2pm
Hank: kelly picking you up?
Thomas: yeah.

Hank PoV
Thomas: you want me to do anything?
Hank: See if Trudy has anything for you to do
Jay knocked on the door
Hank: what's up Halstead?
Jay: Kelly called. The principal brought forward the meeting it's in half an hour. He's on his way.
Hank: Go get your stuff trouble
He didn't move
Hank: Thomas
No answer. We looked at Tommy and he was just staring at the wall. Jay clicked his fingers infront of him. No response
Jay: hey trouble. Can you hear me?
After a few seconds he started blinking.
Hank: hey kid you okay?
Thomas: yeah
Trudy walked in
Trudy: Kelly's here
Thomas: why?
Hank: your meeting got brought forward
Thomas: oh
Hank: go get your things
Kiara: can I stay with you?
Hank: I don't see why not
Kiara: yayyyy
Once he left I turned to Jay.
Hank: has that ever happened before?
Jay: the staring?
Hank: yeah
Jay: yeah a few weeks ago I forgot to talk to kelly.
Hank: we'll talk to him now
Me, Jay and Kiara walked out to the bullpen
Jay: come on trouble we'll walk you out.
Kelly was waiting at Trudys desk
Kiara: bye Tommy. Bye uncle kelly
Thomas: bye
Kelly: see ya stink
Hank: kelly can we have a word?
Kelly: sure. Hey Thomas go wait in the car
Thomas: okay
Thomas left
Jay: he seems to have what looks like absent seizures
Hank: he had one today
Jay: and a few weeks ago
Kelly: I know. He used to have them frequently when he was younger but they died down then stopped. We took him to the hospital and they did test but it didn't come back with anything. They've started again.
Hank: oh okay
Jay: good luck at the meeting today
Kelly: thanks

Kelly pov
I left the district and went to the car.
Thomas: did you tell mom that the time changed?
Kelly: she didn't answer
Thomas: okay
We arrived at the school.
Kelly: we'll see if they can do anything to help you. Lunch after?
No answer
Kelly: hey Thomas
He was just staring again. His eyes were fluttering slightly.
Kelly: hey come back to me TJ.
He started blinking
Kelly: right let's go
We walked to the front desk
Kelly: Morning. We're here for a meeting with Mr Richards
Secretary: Thomas Gibson?
Kelly: that's right
Secretary: he'll be with you in a second. Please take a seat
We sat down. A few minutes the principal came out.
Mr Richards: please follow me
We followed him and sat down in the office. We shook hands.
Mr Richards: is Miss Severide not joining us?
Kelly: I'm afraid she couldn't make it
Mr Richards: I'll send a letter home explaining what's been said today
Kelly: thank you
I looked over at Thomas and he was just fidgeting and moving around in his seat. Miss Jackson gave him a fidget toy to play with.
Mr Richards: I hope you don't mind Miss Jackson being here.
Miss Jackson: good morning mr severide, Thomas. I'm the new school SENCO. I'll be supporting Thomas throughout his time in this school.
Mr Richards: so Thomas' suspension is up and he's due back on Monday. He'll be on a 6 week probation period. Any major incidences then he'll be at risk of expulsion. During this time he will be placed on a behaviour report. It needs to be signed by me, Miss Jackson and his mom at the end of everyday. We'll continue his current timetable of a few lessons a day. Depending on how the 6 weeks go we may slowly integrate him into his full timetable. He'll have 5 targets on his report.
1) stay in class- don't walk out or get sent out
2) no swearing
3) no disrupting
4) listen to all instructions
5) Complete all work to best ability
I would expect a minimum of 3 ticks a day.
Miss Jackson: I would like to set up a plan for Thomas so he can get all the help he needs and get the most out of his schooling experience. Is he medicated for his ADHD?
Kelly: yeah but on and off cause it needs to be taken at a specific time if he plays up then we go past that time so he'll often not come to school on his medication. We're trying to get him to take it but he always puts up a fight and 9 times out of 10 it results in some sort of meltdown or outburst.

Miss Jackson: okay. There is a clear difference in his behaviour when he's medicated. From what I've been told Thomas struggles with the combination of ADHD symptoms and his anger and emotions. When he's taken his medication it decreases the intensity of these symptoms.
Kelly: yeah he's the same at home too. When he doesn't take his medication I've noticed that it can become 10x worse

Dyslexia
• print handouts on peach coloured paper
- in the event that this can't be provided then give a peach overlay
• allow extra time for homework, assignments and tests
• Provide handouts of notes rather than asking to copy text from the board
• allow use of a computer for long writing tasks like creative writing
• break information and tasks into smaller chunks

Exam arrangements
• Extra time
• Rest Breaks
• Use of a reading pen, word processor or assistive software
• A reader
• use of a Computer if required

A time out pass will be given. If signs of frustration or anger are shown then allow him to take a time out to prevent escalation. If his emotions get too much then allow him to go to the inclusion base.

Weekly appointments with Miss Jackson to work on different strategies and understanding and dealing of emotions. Every other week attend anger management.

We got up and left and we're on our way home.
Kelly: Miss Jackson seems nice
Thomas: yeah she's like the only one who doesn't see me as some bad out of control kid.
Kelly: home?
Thomas: can we get something to eat first
Kelly: sure. McDonalds?
Thomas: McDonalds
Kelly: usual
Thomas: yeah please
We went to the drive thru and got something to eat. We got kee a happy meal and picked her up. He dropped us off at home
Kelly: I'm working all weekend but I'll call on my break
Thomas: okay. Be safe
Kelly: always
Kiara: bye
We got to the front door and opened the door. We went to my room and ate our McDonalds while watching a film. We was home alone so we just slept.
