The next morning
Kelly's pov
I had been trying to get hold of Zara since Thomas was brought in. I left her a voicemail but whether she chooses to listen that's up to her.
Thomas was still asleep and Matt walked in with Kiara
Matt: sup Kelly
Kelly: hey man. morning Kiara
Kiara: morning
Matt: how's he doing?
Kelly: better. He had 6 seizures yesterday tho
Matt: damn. Epilepsy?
Kelly: it's looking likely. I mean i suspected it when he was younger but the tests kept coming back clean.
Kiara: Tommy okay?
Kelly: he's fine he's just a little unwell
Matt: wasn't he supposed to go back to school today?
Kelly: yeah I spoke to the principal and he's signed Thomas off until Wednesday. He seemed quite understanding.
Matt: that's good. Chief has you covered. He sends his best and hopes trouble gets better soon.
Kelly: thanks man
Matt: I better go
Kelly: ight see ya
After about 20 minutes I heard groaning.
Kiara: Tommy waking up
Kelly: hey what's up TJ? How you feeling?
Thomas: like I've been hit by a truck
Kelly: I'll get Nat and Will for you
I left to get them and we came back

Thomas pov
Will: how you feeling buddy?
Thomas: like shit
Kelly: hey watch your mouth
Thomas: sorry
Will: it's okay.
Thomas: can I go home soon?
Nat: we're just need to do a blood work up and you can go after your results.
Will: you should be out by dinner time.
Thomas: Uncle Kelly can we get takeout? Hospital food sucks
Kelly: sure
Thomas: wheres Connor?
Will: he's on his break. I'll tell him you were asking for him.
Thomas: okay
They left and April came in to take my blood.
April: all done
Thomas: thanks
April left.
Thomas: Uncle Kelly has mom come to see me?
Kelly: not yet kiddo she hasn't been picking up the phone.
Kiara: Jay told mommy you were here yesterday
Kelly: then what?
Kiara: mommy, daddy and Jay were shouting and daddy made Jay leave
Thomas: she doesn't care
Kelly: she does care
Thomas: all she cares about is Michael.
Kelly: I'm sure that's not true
Thomas: mhm. Can I go on my phone?
Kelly: yeah sure here
Kelly gave me my phone and I had loads of messages none from mom tho. I was just scrolling through my phone when there was a knock on the door
Connor: i heard someone's been asking about me
Thomas: Connor
Connor: hey kiddo. How you feeling?
Thomas: I feel fine a little tired tho
Connor: that's good. How's school?
Thomas: I got suspended for 2 weeks and yesterday was supposed to be my first day back.
Kelly: we had a meeting on Friday
Connor: what did they say?
Thomas: basically there fed up with my bullshit
Kelly: think before you speak. You don't have to say the first thing that come to your head
Thomas: I know. I know. My bad
Kelly: he's gonna have support from the school SENCO. He's on a six week probation so he's on behaviour report with 5 targets. He's at risk of expulsion. A plan was set up to help his ADHD and behaviour in class.
Weekly appointments with the SENCO and support staff to work on different strategies and understanding and dealing of emotions. He also has to attend anger management.
Connor: woah that's a lot
Kelly: tell me about it
Connor: hopefully this is the start of a better school experience.
Kelly: hopefully
Connor: Maggies paging me. Hey trouble don't be a stranger
Thomas: I won't. Bye Connor
Connor: bye kiddo.
Connor left and Will came back
Will: good news your bloods are clear. So Nats just gone to get the discharge papers and you can go. So Kelly if you go to the front desk she'll be there for you to sign them.
Thomas: yesss
Will: I'm offended
Kelly left
Thomas: can you blame me for wanting to leave this place. It's so boring.
Will: fair enough. You remind me of Jay
Thomas: Hank said that too. Jay told me his secret.
Will: he did?
Thomas: mhm
Will: wow he's never told anyone. The only people that know are me and Hank.
Thomas: why?
Will: when he was at school people used to treat him different when they found out so I guess he just didn't want that reaction again. Sometimes he feels embarrassed that it's something that he will always struggle with.
Thomas: yeah I know what he means. The teachers are the worse ones.
I understand the embarrassment. Especially when we're doing silent independent work. Everyone's sitting down doing their work while I'm just doodling or walking around the classroom or daydreaming and the teacher calls me out on it infront of everyone.
Will: you should talk to Jay. He'll understand the struggles more than anyone.
Thomas: yeah maybe
Kelly walked to the door
Kelly: right come on you two let's go
We walked to the exit
Will: we'll be in touch with the results of the EEG. Just be aware that he may have a few seizures.
Kelly: when will we get the results?
Will: should be within the next 48 hours. You'll get a call to discuss his results
Kelly: okay. Thank you
Will: right be good trouble
Nat: bye Thomas
Thomas: bye
We went out to the car and went to McDonalds then Uncle Kelly dropped us home.
Thomas: thank you
Kelly: No problem. Tell your mom to ring me I want to speak to her.
Thomas: okay. Bye uncle kelly
Kelly: see ya later
I went inside and went upstairs. I finished my McDonalds and went to sleep

The next morning
Kelly PoV
I was at the firehouse sitting at the squad table when my phone started ringing. Chicago Med.
Kelly: Lieutenant Kelly Severide
Dr Abrams: Lt Severide it's Dr Abrams from Chicago med.
Kelly: oh hi. Is this about the EEG?
Dr Abrams: yeah I've reviewed the results, the video of the test, and his history and I am gonna diagnose him with epilepsy. I would like to start him on Valproic acid (Depakene). We'll start on 250mg twice a day. Each dose 10-12 hours apart. We'll try out for a few weeks and if the seizures are still frequent then we'll up the dosage. For emergency situations I'll give some diazepam in the form of a nasal spray. This will stop the seizure. Only use this in specific situations like if the seizure has reached 5 minutes and isn't showing any signs of slowing down or stopping. Any questions?
Kelly: Will this medication interact with the Ritalin?
Dr Abrams: no but the Valproic acid can possibly worsen ADHD symptoms so it's important that he also takes the Ritalin to avoid this. How often does he have to take it?
Kelly: every 3-4 hours
Dr Abrams: okay I've sent through the prescription.
Kelly: would it be possible to send one for the Ritalin as well
Dr Abrams: yeah sure. I'll send it through. It should be ready in about 20 minutes.
Kelly: do you think he can go back to school tomorrow only for a few hours?
Dr Abrams: as long as he takes his medication it should be fine. Make sure he takes it today. It may be worth both doses being at 9am and 9pm every day. That way he can start it today
Kelly: yeah sure thank you
Dr Abrams: I'll see yous in a couple weeks
Kelly: squad 3 let's go
We went to the fire truck and stopped at the pharmacy. I picked up his prescription.
Kelly: one more stop
We were outside Thomas'
I rang Thomas
Thomas: hello?
Kelly: Hey you at home?
Thomas: I'm in the treehouse
Kelly: you ok?
Thomas: yeah I I-
Kelly: Thomas?
No answer
Kelly: fuck sake. Hey Thomas. TJ
No answer
Kelly: Come on trouble
Thomas: y-yeah?
Kelly: why you in the treehouse?
Thomas: Steve was pissing me off. I remembered what you said. If I feel myself getting angry then walk away and take some time to calm down. So I walked away to the treehouse.
Kelly: really. I'm proud of you kiddo. Right you have some new medicine to help the seizures and I renewed your Ritalin.
Thomas: okay I'm coming now
Kelly: bring a drink

Thomas pov
I went into the kitchen and got a water from the fridge. I went outside and the whole of squad 3 were waiting
Thomas: your on shift?
Kelly: mhm
He got out the new tablets.
Kelly: what's the time?
Cruz: 9am
Kelly: right here
He gave me a tablet and I took it.
Thomas: so I have that epilepsy thing?
Kelly: yeah
Thomas: okay
Kelly: you have to take the Ritalin as well
Thomas: but I don't want to
Kelly: you have to
Thomas: fine
I took the Ritalin as well
Kelly: good. Remember Ritalin every 3-4 hours
Thomas: yeah yeah
Kelly: the seizure meds are every 12  hours so 9pm. I'll ring you to remind you about that one seeing as it's the most important one. Guess what
Thomas: what?
Kelly: school tomorrow
Thomas: okay
Cruz: we gotta go
Kelly: I'll ring you later.
Thomas: be safe
Kelly: always
I went back inside I just watched a movie with Kee. Before I knew it it was 9pm. I went and took my meds.
Kelly rang me
Thomas: just taken it
Kelly: good
Thomas: I'm going to the district tomorrow. Jays picking me up.
Kelly: okay. I'll remind him about your meds. Right get some sleep.
Thomas: night
Kelly: night kiddo
I ended the call and went to sleep.
