Lance sighed as he faintly heard Allura yelling at the other paladins to wake up and get ready. He sat up pushing the covers to the edge of the bed and just leaving it in a clump at the end of his bed-cot thing. Finally accepting his fate, he got up and headed to the bathroom to brush his teeth, as he was doing so Allura knocked and yelled something in Altean before telling him to get up. After Lance felt as if his teeth had been cleaned, he spit out the paste and swirled water in his mouth. Getting into his normal day outfit he looked at himself in the mirror aware that his hair was a mess. Slipping on his shoes he walked once again to the bathroom and smoothed down his hair, which was a mess, into his normal look. Giving himself one last look in the mirror he walked out of his room thinking about how much he missed home, who was he kidding no he didn't. He walked into the bridge, to find everyone was gathered waiting for him.
"Alright now that the beauty sleeper is here, we can get down to business." Shiro said sarcastically, to the rest of the team it may have seemed funny, but to Lance it hit hard. To Lance the one person who he looked up to was making fun of him. Lance felt as if he had been punched by Shiro, Shiro punched him. But he laughed it off as any form of respect he had felt for Shiro evaporated.
"Thank you Shiro, today we are discussing the undercover mission that must be done." Allura announced, her voice cutting through the tension that had gathered.
"Ooo, nice." Hunk joined in trying to rid the air of any bad feelings.
"Thank you, Hunk," Allura continued "This will take place over two Phoeb, or for you- about two months."
"Wow, two months!" Pidge shouted in slight shock, knowing this would probably be one long mission. Lance didn't know how to feel about Pidge. She was smart and kind, but he felt dejected as his once best friend Hunk gravitated towards her instead of him. Lance definitely was jealous of her, also she lied to get into the Garrison which everyone ignored. He felt as if that was unfair that it was passed over as acceptable when he knew he would get yelled at if he pulled that stunt.
"Well, we will need a team of five people, with two people staying behind with the castle watching it. And me and Shiro already picked who would go." Allura started, Lance froze- what did she mean? If Shiro went, then someone was being left behind. "Me and Shiro obviously, because his hand is Galra tech so we may need it. And myself because I pilot the blue lion and I'm Altean and could be of great use." Lance's thoughts were all over the place. That moment one of the remaining paladins would be left behind, and something in his gut told him that he was going to be left.
"Pidge and Hunk because you two are good with tech in general, and along with how well you work together, you will be joining us." Allura continued, seemingly fine with leaving a paladin out if she got to go.
"YES!" Pidge and Hunk shouted, enthralled with the fact they would be undercover and could possibly work on their science. Lance and Keith looked at each other knowing one would be left with Coran and would be left behind.
"And finally, Keith because you pilot the Black Lion and you're the leader." She finished smiling, not even sparing a glance in Lance's way.
"Anyone called, go to the training room for debrief." Shiro stated, turning and walking away with Allura by his side. The other paladins, apparently forgetting all about Lance left without a thought about him or his feelings. In doing so they left Coran and Lance all alone on the bridge.
"Lance-" Coran started, faltering a bit before continuing "I'm sorry" Lance looked at the man, who got left without a second thought just like him, before standing up and hugging him.
"No Coran, it wasn't your fault." Lance said, brushing it off, before a look of determination entered his eyes. "Now what should we do to prove them wrong?" Lance smirked.
"What?" Coran asked, confused by Lance's antics.
"Let's show them who they decided to mess with." Lance's voice was laced with something Coran couldn't pin down. But number 3 made a good point, they were both seen as the underdogs and left behind. Something awoke in Coran, something that flamed this idea, something that gave him more respect to Lance than he had before.
"You're right. They don't deserve us." Coran coldly responded, before looking around unsure what provoked that.
"I have a few ideas..." Lance cackled, he was done being left out, he was done being ridiculed, he was done being toyed with.
