Chane walked forward, pointedly ignoring the pleading behind her. Foolish man, he just needs to leave me alone. She couldn't understand why this person was so upset, was she really doing anything wrong? Walking away from problems came naturally to her, given she couldn't voice her opinion.

Nothing mattered to her except her father, and that was fine. Master Huey may not be there but she knew one day, one day, he would come back. He loved her, he had to. She continued to walk away, her heels clacking, dress swishing, grimacing as the footsteps came closer. She hadn't expected him to follow her, and was strangely impressed by the stubbornness exhibited by this one person.

Most tended to give up by this time. As he came up behind her she quickly flipped around, laying her knife on the side of his neck, before he could grab her wrist. Chane narrowed her eyes, she just wanted to be left alone. He laughed, his eyes crinkling.

"What Chane? You didn't expect Claire Stanfield to give up that easily did you?" She narrowed her eyes as he easily slipped away from the knife. Why was she letting this idiot escape? Ever since the incident on The Flying Pussyfoot he just wouldn't let up. He was insane, no one wanted to marry someone like her.

"You wouldn't kill me. Not when you're thinking about my offer I mean." Chane bit her lip, letting her eyes soften for a second. He was right, and he knew this would catch her off guard. Claire took that as an invitation. He grabbed her hand suddenly, squeezing it. What is he doing? She thought. Claire smiled. "Come on Chane, think of what this could be. We could be so happy together. I love you."

She pulled away suddenly, putting up that wall. No one has ever said they loved me... not even... She thought back to the short time with her father, with Huey Laforet, before he left. Even though she gave up everything for him he never said he loved her. Her sacrifice...

Claire noticed her shaking. "Chane I'm sorry, look, I'll go if this upsets you so much. I'm sorry." He started to walk away as Chane leapt at him. She grabbed his arm, not allowing him to leave. This is frustrating. There is so much I want to say, but even I do not understand. Claire looked surprised, pulling the crying Chane towards him. "Chane? What is this? Are you rethinking my proposal?"

Chane mimed writing. Claire nodded, understanding what she meant. He grabbed a pen and paper, handing it to the girl. She wrote hastily, handing the paper to him. In her small fine script it read,

No one has ever said that to me before.

Claire smiled at her, as she frowned up at him. He looked shocked for a second. "I can't believe no one has ever told a dame like you that they loved you. Chane, if you'll let me I'll say that every day." Chane looked shocked, she didn't think anyone could ever, would ever, talk to him like this. If only I could speak I would tell you everything. Chane grabbed the paper again.

Doesn't it bother you that I'll never be able to speak to you?

Claire scanned the paper and drew Chane in, hugging her small frame. "Chane, that's just a part of you. It's even better that you sacrificed your voice out of love, however misguided. But every look, every move, tells me all I need to know. Now, what will it be?" Claire kneeled down on one knee, looking up at Chane's face. "Will you marry me Chane Laforet?" Chane nodded, slowly but surely.

Before he could hug her she tapped on his shoulder, mouthing, "I love you." Claire hugged her desperately, whispering into her dark hair. "And I love you too."
