I just stormed off, pissed with this Park who just can't seem to look after himself.
"Why do you look so pissed?" Lam asked me as we kept the stuff away.
"He. That fellow over there. Is driving me mad with the way he doesn't look after himself!"
"What did he do now? He's recovered na?"
"Yea. Barely and then he ran 30km with the juniors. He's gonna fall ill again!"
Lam just looked at me thoughtfully.
"You know, he's just doing what he's supposed to do. That's the sotus spirit. We lead by example. You gave him grief over late coming. You can't be upset over him running with the juniors. And he's fine, isn't he?"
"I rather he rested. No one will judge or think any lesser of him if he didn't run. Don't you think he needs the rest?!"
"I do. But it has to be a rule shared with all. Not just for Park. Make it a rule, share it with the team and everything is OK. I know you are worried about him but he's just playing fair."
I fell silent, knowing Lam was right. I just looked at Park who was keeping away everything.
"And you ok? You seem to be very worried with Park falling sick. Never seen you so worried before."
"Idiot. I'm always like this. You got a Beam to look after you. So I don't have to worry so much."
Lam laughed, patted my shoulders muttering "so you say" and he left. We packed up by 10pm and Lam left to go see Beam. I was heading out when I saw Park waiting outside. He waved his hand at me and I walked over.
"Heading home?"
I nodded. "Let me send you home?"
I looked towards my bike and Park just shushed me, saying nobody could steal it. I laughed and I agreed. He handed me a helmet. I put it on but my hair kept straying out.
"Here, let me adjust it for you. I feel like cutting it off!" Park groused as he took out my helmet, adjusted my hair and then placed it on for me again. He pulled on his own and then kickstarted the bike.
I climbed on and held onto his shoulders. I held onto the side of the bike as Park drove off. It was a silent ride that ended quickly. I got off and handed him the helmet. He smiled at me and just asked, "is everything ok between us? I'm sorry for anything I did."
I sighed. It wasn't even his fault. Why was he even saying sorry? But then again, Park is like that. He only seems tough but he's a real sweetheart. His soft side only comes out around people he's close to.
"I'm sorry about earlier. I was just worried about you. But it's still my fault for throwing temper."
Park just shook his head and smiled, getting ready to ride off.
"Remember to eat ok? Rest well?"
He nodded in agreement and took off.
The next day, I got ready for classes and came down around 7.30am to make the walk to school when I saw Park waiting downstairs.
"Park?"
"You left your bike behind because of me. The least I can do is give you a ride. Come on."
I just chuckled as I took the helmet from him and he grabbed it back. I stared at him confused as he took it and got off the bike.
"Ehhh?"
"Let me adjust your hair because it is going to get in the way and then you can put it on."
As Park sorted my hair, I just watched over him as I was slightly taller. Just then, I saw Lam and Beam come out of the dorm. Shit. Beam must have stayed over. Both Lam and myself stayed in the same building. It was only Park who stayed in a different one. Lam's eyes caught mine and he just smirked and he just raised his eyebrows at me. I just glared and inwardly cursed at him to go away. Both he and Beam chuckled as they walked away. Park didn't realize as he was busy with my hair.
Finally, he was satisfied and put on my helmet for me. As Lam and Beam had gone away, I just let him be. It was nice to be looked after too. We got on and Park drove us to school.
It was a long gruelling day and I only knocked off around 6pm. We did different majors so I didn't see Park for a good part of the day but as I left, I saw him talking to a junior. He seemed frustrated but was trying to hold his cool seeing the way he kept clenching his fist. I thought of rescuing him and walked over, calling out to him.
"Park! You ok?"
But I think it could have been a wrong move. Park turned and saw me and glared, like wtf was I doing there. The junior turned too and instantly became happier when she saw me and bounded over to me. Shit.
I looked at Park who just face palmed as she walked over.
"P Forthhhhhhhhhh! I am so glad I saw you! I been asking P Park about you and surprisingly he doesn't know!"
"Hey Nong, what's up?"
"Call me Kuynnnn naaaaa. Why Nong? No need to be so formal. Wanted to ask if you are free for dinner tomorrow?"
I looked at Park who just looked away and didnt say anything. I sighed and looked at her before biting the bullet.
"Sorry Nong, but i have plans tomorrow."
"So P Park was telling the truth! He said you had plans with him but I thought he was just bluffing me!! Aish ok na. Maybe another day ok?"
I nodded weakly and she left. I finally let out the breath that I had been holding and looked at Park who just shrugged his shoulders at me.
"I figured you would do Sotus all over again then go out with her so I was fibbing to her."
I laughed. "Thank you. I'm glad I lied too and it just matched yours!"
"Well we are best friends. I figured I could read your mind."
He just smiled at me and was prepared to go off when I ran up and held onto his hand.
"Any, erm, dinner plans tonight?"
Park looked at me thoughtfully and shook yes. Ah. I let go of his hands as he mentioned that he was meeting a junior for dinner.
"Ah okays, that's nice. Have fun ok?"
Park nodded at me before taking off. As he rode off, I couldn't help but feel a slight pang.
Stupid Lam was messing with my head!
