I sat there kind of scared thinking they would stop knocking, like everyone does. Eventually I was considering opening the door, but no that would be stupid, wouldn't it? But then after ten minutes of constant knocking, I walked very slowly, hoping they would walk away in the time I was walking to the door, but unfortunately, they didn't stop. I opened the door very carefully.

It was the principal of the local school! How did she find out where I live?! She said: 'I saw a teen I didn't recognise walk in this direction yesterday, which is weird because every teen in this neighbourhood was supposedly studying at my school, I saw you were sitting inside, so that's why I didn't stop knocking. How come you aren't at my school?' I stuttered back something like: 'Well uhm I uh I just moved here! Yes, that's it uhhu definitely,' As I scratched the back of my neck nervously. Then she asked where my parents are, so I answered that they were on their honeymoon and that my dad made this treehouse for me, so if I missed him, I could come here. Which isn't true of course, my parents are dead, and the orphanage was the horrible place that brought me to the lab. She invited me to come to the school tomorrow for an introduction.

The rest of the afternoon I was thinking about her offer: My inner self that knew it was way too dangerous to just go out into the open like that told me that I shouldn't do it, but if I did do it I'd get to be more normal, maybe meet other teens my age and even get into a relationship or something. If I didn't do it, what would I even do, just the same thing I'm doing now every single day? Sure, I wouldn't have to worry much about having to go back to the lab, but would stealing and dreading my life for all eternity really be that much better?
