Cato was the definition of unhappy right now. He saw how Y/N smiled at Peeta, and for some reason, he felt angry. His jaw clenched as he turned to his fellow Careers, telling them to return to training.

Cato, however, walked over to Y/N. He watched from behind as she threw an axe at the target, again hitting the bullseye.

"District Twelve's boy is certainly surprising." Cato finally made his presence known. He heard Y/N hum as she motioned for the trainer to retrieve the axe.

"He shocked me when he threw it overhead. I wasn't expecting it." Y/N chuckled, which sent another flash of hot anger through Cato.

"He's strong. Is that what you like in a man?"

"That's none of your concern." Y/N trailed a hand up Cato's bicep and to his neck. "Sharpen this for me, will you?" Y/N shoved the axe into Cato's chest, grinning when he grabbed it.

Cato felt eyes on his back. He knew who was glaring at him; Clove. By now, the other tributes were realising something was going on between Y/N and Cato. The blond cleared his throat and quickly sharpened Y/N's axe before picking up his sword. He made his way over to the dummies and began to slash at them, scaring most tributes. Katniss looked intrigued, though.

She couldn't tear her eyes away from Marvel, who hit the middle of the target with his spear every time. Clove had deadly precision with her throwing knives. Glimmer wasn't too bad with a bow and arrow. Lio seemed skilled with a trident. And Y/N never failed to hit the bullseye with her axe. Overall, not a very friendly Career pack.

Marvel and Clove seemed to be stuck in a quiet heated argument before the small brunette girl was pushed forward by Marvel. She glared at him before regaining her composure and approaching Y/N.

"Y/N, right?" Clove popped up beside the H/C-haired girl, staring up at her.

"Yeah. District Four." Y/N looked at Clove and instantly knew who she was, "And you're Clove Kentwell, District Two."

"You know my last name?"

"Only because I watched the reapings. It's fun to scare people by reciting their last names." Y/N threw another axe and wiped the sweat off her forehead. "I'm guessing you aren't here for small talk, though."

"Would you like to join the Career pack? Officially. Technically, Four is a Career District but only partly."

"Sounds tempting." Y/N already knew her answer, but messing with Clove was fun. "I don't know. How do I know you won't instantly kill me? You seem to be glaring at Cato whenever he's near me. Or are you glaring at me? Are you, perhaps, jealous?"

Clove loudly scoffed, blinking in disbelief. "If I were jealous of anyone, it'd be Cato. I like girls. And I'm only trying to warn him. I know that he's going to end up having a crush on you. And that's a weakness others can use against him."

"What a turn of events." Y/N grinned, exposing her shiny teeth. "But how do you know he's not joking? People flirt all the time."

"You may flirt a lot, but I know Cato. He doesn't unless he's interested. Very interested."

Y/N hummed, still not convinced. Cato was probably getting in some last-minute action before entering the Games.
