Y/N yawned, rubbing her sore shoulder. She felt like a mummy, covered in bandages and smeared with ointment. Each Career had their fair share of wounds, but Y/N was the unlucky one. Of course, going off alone was always bound to bring trouble.

"Guys," Glimmer hissed, careful not to make any loud noises. She silently looked to her left, where a young boy was drinking by the river.

The Careers stood behind him as he washed the grime off his face, sighing.

"Had a nice drink?" Cato piped up, finally announcing their presence. The boy took off into the woods, but not before Clove could shoot a knife in his direction.

The blade hit his leg, making it harder for him to run as the Careers sprinted after him.

"Y/N, spear!" Cato shouted from behind her. Y/N immediately stopped, almost causing Marvel to crash into her. She threw her spear at the boy, impaling his stomach. There was no way he could run now.

"All yours." She said to whoever wanted to take the kill before it became hers. Cato slashed his throat, but a canon had already gone off by then.

The Careers, excluding Peeta, all celebrated their latest win. They walked out of the forest and back into the clearing with the river with skips in their steps.

"I can't believe he even bothered to run!" Glimmer exclaimed, referring to the tribute Y/N had previously killed. The Careers all laughed, imitating how he tried to outrun them. Y/N's ears perked up as she heard the sound of someone splashing water.

"Hey, look!" Y/N exclaimed, pointing at the black-haired girl who happened to be the Careers' target. Katniss was wading in the shallow water of a river to relieve the burn on her leg. As soon as she saw the Careers, her eyes widened, and she bolted.

"Fish out of the pond!" Marvel yelled as they chased after her.

"She's mine!" Glimmer playfully shouted.

Cato was at the front of the pack, Y/N not too far behind. Clove was running alongside Peeta, ensuring he didn't run off.

"Where you going, baby?!" Cato exclaimed as he crashed through the forest, "There's nowhere to run!"

Katniss resorted to climbing up a tall tree. She panted as she reached a high branch, looking down at the deadly pack.

"Get her, Cato!" Glimmer encouraged the blond as he began to scale up the trunk, jaw tightly clenched. However, he grabbed onto a frail stick and fell. He landed with a loud thud.

"Fine! I'll shoot her!" But Glimmer overestimated her aim. She missed Katniss by a long shot. Cato angrily motioned for Glimmer to hand the bow and arrow over, trying for himself. He was just as bad.

"Maybe you should try throwing the sword." Katniss sarcastically said from her position high in a tree. Behind the other Careers, Y/N snickered. When Cato glared at her, she shrugged.

"What? Twelve has a sense of humour. Laughing isn't a crime."

"I'd like to see you do better," Cato growled, shoving the bow and arrow into Y/N's arms. He was suddenly angry, probably from how missing Katniss put a dent in his ego.
