You lifted your head with a yawn while stretching your limbs, earning a satisfying crack. You rubbed your sore neck that had been lowered for some time and lazily blew some stray hair out of your face. With teary eyes, you looked at Midnight in front of you, peacefully taking a nap. Oh how you want to be as peaceful as that.
You are sat crisscrossed on your bed, your back had been hunched over for quite a while, causing it to ache. You looked up to survey your bedroom, excluding your bed, it has been furnished with a complete table set that leaned against the wall beside the bed, books and papers still scattered messily on it.
The rock slab that Midnight is currently curled up on is beside it, right in between the desk and the two book shelves that are facing your bed. Finally the door to your room is beside your bedside table, where a lit candle light lamp sat to provide light.
You observe the sketch pad that had been laying on your lap for at least an hour, it was a drawing of Midnight napping right now, then picked up your previously dropped charcoal pencil. The once sharpened pencil has now dulled to a stump. As you added more details, your mind wandered back to your thoughts.
It's been three days since Hiccup proposed an alliance from Berk, and two days when you agreed to consider it with an open mind. So far, you didn't have the answer. You tried to keep yourself busy by doing your routine around the island, but now you find yourself with a rare day with too much free time on your hands.
Midnight could tell that your mind was too far away to enjoy the long flight you look forward to every day. That's how she ended up napping away the time and acting as your model, instead of flying on her own, opting to stay with you until you finally resolve whatever problem you had in your mind.
That day, Hiccup had told you everything about Berk. So much has changed over the years, you weren't even sure if you were talking about Berk anymore.
Berk was your home for 13 years. You were taught since birth that dragons was your enemy, that you must kill them before they kill you. For years, you believed it, after all, why would you have any doubt when you see dragons burning down houses almost every day? Your luck however, to put it bluntly, hates you. Every bad situation you were involved in gets worse.
That didn't improve your already bad reputation, you were also known as the village runt's only friend. You didn't mind about that part, you've known Hiccup since you were a wee babe, his situation was similar as yours, which allowed you to have a strong bond.
But that made the bullying worse.
Until you found Midnight. You went on a walk in the woods after yet another dragon raid, you were trying to find the dragon you shot down the night before. Thank goodness it didn't cause any big commotion so no one knew. You ducked and step over branches above and below, but as you said, your luck hates you.
You tripped over a root and stumbled forward, your hands weren't quick enough to stop your fall, resulting your body to roll forward. You screamed and cursed, but sighed a breath of relief after you finally stopped.
You stood up slowly while cursing the gods under your breath, your body was covered in scratches and bruises and dirt, and your foot was at least sprained. You look up to observe your surroundings, it was a small cove you've never been to before. A small lake was in the middle with some fish swimming within, some moss covered the wall of stone around you. You were alone, but you can feel something watching you.
Then, a growl came behind you. You froze and slowly turn around. Perching on top of a boulder, was the black dragon that you recognized from the Book of Dragons. The dragon that it didn't have much info about, the one vikings feared the most. The Night fury.
