The sound of metal clashing each other vibrated through the island of Frelsi, accompanied by few painful grunts and groans, mixed in with a handful of war cries. Snotlout let out a scream/groan as he proceeded to get slammed into the wall after getting kicked, again.
"Hey, I have a question. Is this an ice breaking session or a BONE BREAKING SESSION?!" He said, shrieking the question at the end.
And he was mostly right. You dodged and blocked the gang's attacks with ease. The gang were already sweating and breathing heavily, when you only look like you've only been on a walk.
Due to your alter ego and reputation, the gang had always been curious about your skills and limits. It's been a week since your unofficial alliance, but some of the gang members were still scar- wary to be near you.
That's why Hiccup had suggested invited you to train with them as an ice breaking session and as a team training. When you heard the invitation, you were hesitant. You've trained yourself to kill for years, sure you would go easy on them, but you couldn't help to be worried of seriously injuring any of them. If you did, it could break the already fractured relationship you had with Berk.
But with further convincing from Hiccup, you finally relented, with one condition, you will only use metal staffs while the others use their own weapons.
So here you are, with nothing but a simple metal staff wrapped in leather bounds in each hand and wearing no armor under a simple shirt and trousers, with your hair tied in a braid, casually beating up the dragon riders like they were training dummies.
Even with the advantages of having good weapons and outnumbering, your skills have lived up to their reputation. They tried changing tactics, but you seem to keep up with them at every turn. The fight was so intense that even the dragons came to see the show.
Meatlug whimpered worriedly as she watched Fishlegs got punched in the face by Tuffnut after you ducked out of the way, Hookfang looks like he's cheering when Snotlout got yet again thrown to the wall. Barf and Belch could have stirred up more problems by enlightening the arena ablaze if it weren't for Midnight's warning growl. And Toothless has made a bet with Stormfly on which of their riders would last longer.
Just as expected, the riders were slowly limped or got thrown to the side, *cough Snotlout cough*. Surprisingly, only Hiccup hasn't gave up yet, (unfortunately for Stormfly). You circled each other from a distance, eyes never leaving the other. To your surprise, Hiccup took out a weird looking sword and pressed a button, igniting the sword on fire.
He twirled the sword around, gaining the attention of the dragons from the audience, even Midnight was entranced by it. But the distraction doesn't work on you. With undeterred focus, you started running towards him. Your weapons clashed with each other, dodging and avoiding attacks.
Hiccup was astonished by your fighting skills. He had taken time to analyze your moves when you fought the others. You seemed to be focusing on defense first, dodging others attacks, letting others do the damage for you. Every moves and positions were planned, he can see your eyes calculating how would the others move. And he knew you were aware of him observing you.
But when you saw an opportunity at offense, you didn't hesitate. Your eyes themselves seemed to turn cold. Your moves were quick and swift, rarely giving your opponents a chance to fight back. Your attacks were unexpected yet planned at the same time, every move you take were elegant and precise. It was as if you were performing a deadly dance.
Seeing that he was distracted, you took the chance to flip his sword out of his hand and into the air, kicking him down in the torso at the same time. Catching the sword before it hit the ground, you twirled your body towards him, pointing the flaming sword in front of his face.
In that moment, time seemed to stop around you. You stared into each other's eyes, his warm forest green eyes a contrast to your cold mud brown irises. Both of you couldn't help but to stare, reading each other's eyes as if it was a story, a story that you never got to see.
With heavy breaths, he raised his hands in surrender. He watched your harden demeanor softened and the coldness returned to your usual gentleness as you retracted the sword with a click and gladly took your free outstretched hand.
"That was awesome!" Ruffnut threw her hands up in a cheer as you walked towards the gang.
"Couldn't have put it myself, sister." Tuffnut agreed.
"You've got to teach me that move." Astrid added.
You gave them a small smile. "Thank you. Are you all alright?" You quickly asked. You may have gone easy on them, but their painful flinches and hisses were hard to ignore.
As if reading your mind, Hiccup placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. "We're fine, Y/n. Besides, we knew the risk, and what's training without a bit of injuries here and there? With your help, we can improve our fighting tactics."
With a sign, you nodded, before remembering the sword in hand. "Oh, right. Here." You handed the sword back. "It's surprisingly light. How did you make it retractable? And did you use Monstrous Nightmare gel to make the flame last?" Hiccup chuckled at your questions. Your inner child curiosity was one of the things that haven't change about you.
"Well, yes, I did. I built an air proof can-"
Before he could continue, you felt a sudden weight land on top of your head and huffed. These fellas will never listen, do they? You stretched out your arm, a green terrible terror jumping down from your head to perch on it.
"You guys are never going to stop using my head as a landing spot, are you?" You asked, with a fake defeated sigh, untying the scroll tied to its feet.
"Never!" Layla, the green terrible terror chirped, nuzzling into your neck as you chuckled.
-
Hiccup watched as you softly talked to the terrible terror. He couldn't understand a thing you were saying, but it looked like you were scolding the dragon as if a mother scolds their child adoringly. But your face quickly returned to its neutral expression as you read through the contents of the message in the scroll.
Putting on a convincing smile, you calmly rolled back the scroll and patted the terrible terror's head before it gave a happy squawk and flew off.
"I apologize but I'm afraid we have to continue this conversation another time." You said while pocketing the message. "Whats wrong? Did something happen? Maybe we can help?" Hiccup offered, gesturing to the gang who displayed confused yet similar determination.
You politely waved a hand. "It's fine. It's not something that concerns you. Get some rest and take it easy. I'm not going to be here tonight, so please make sure not to burn the island to the ground." You told the group, specially directing the last sentence to the twins.
You may not have been updated of the group's private lives for the last seven years, but your memory does not fail you when you remember the twin's troublemaker tendencies, and you doubt they have changed for the better, if anything it might have gotten worse with a dragon in with their schemes.
With that, you turned and walked out of the arena, with Midnight trailing behind you.
"Huh, wonder why she would say that?" Tuffnut asked, a genuine confused look on his face.
M"I think she is talking to us." Ruffnut replied.
"Wonder wh- ohhh I get it now." Tuffnut nodded his head, receiving 'are you serious' looks from his friends.
