One month later...

• Shaine POV •

"Miss James?" I hear.
"Yes?" I look up from my computer to see Noah's dad.
I shoot up and pull my skirt down, trying to look as presentable and professional as I can.
"Meeting later at four. You'll be needed to attend."
"Yes Sir. I'll be there." He nods and walks away.
"What was that all about?" Leanne asks.
Leanna is a lady who works in the same department as me. Her desk is right opposite to mine. She joined the company while I was away in Outerbanks so she pretty much filled in for me while I wasn't working and now we work together. We get along really well and she's really sweet. Every morning she brings me a coffee when she arrives. I've learnt that she's married to a business partner of Noah's father. She is a lot richer than Noahs father because her husbands business is more valuable and receives higher profits and it's overall a larger company. Even though she's wealthy and very much career driven, she's really down to earth and doesn't show off which is great. She's more of a relaxed person and she doesn't like being those to brag about how much money she has. Stereotypically, in rich business company owners wives tend to not have jobs they just attend to house work but Leanne told me she never wanted that type of life. She always wanted to work and make her own money and that's what she does, and I completely admire that about her.

Speaking of Noah and I, our relationship could not be any better. We have spent a lot more time together recently which is nice and a lot better than before. He avoids working late now so we are now able to go out for dates and we spent a lot of time together at home. Binge watching shows, watching movie series, ordering take out. Just spending time together as much as possible outside of work. We have a family meal to attend to tomorrow with Noah's family. I have already met his entire family and they all seem really sweet and his mom is really nice. His father however, I don't know where I stand with him. I understand he's employed me which is great but I don't think he respects me as a person which I don't completely understand why. I've always spoken respectfully towards him but it's like he doesn't like me. I don't know whether there is something about me he doesn't like in particular or he just doesn't like me as a person. Maybe he doesn't trust me or want me with Noah. Either way, I can't really do much or say much about it or else I will lose my job which I really don't want that to happen.

I went back to Outerbanks a few weeks back for my mothers funeral. I left the next day though. I didn't want to stay there for a long time. Knowing my mom isn't there anymore makes it even harder. It was good to see Nathan again though. It's frustrating how much work can take over everything in your life and you kind of become distant with people, especially seeing as all my family and friends live in Outerbanks meanwhile I live in New York.

One month ago...

Today was the day that I had dreaded for a long time. It's probably a day that I had dreaded since the last funeral I attended, being my fathers. Nathan and I are stood at the door of the church greeting people as they walk inside.
"So sorry for your loss."
"Hope you guys are well."
"Look after yourselves."
"How are you."
"I'm sorry for your loss."
"My deepest condolences to you."
The same sentences that people keep saying. They don't mean anything nor do they help anything. My brother and I are burying our own mother today, how are we supposed to feel?

I'm staring down at the floor.
"Hey S." I hear and feel someone hold onto my arm. I look up to see Sarah stood with her family. Mr and Mrs Cameron, herself and Wheezie. She hugs me while Mr Cameron shakes Nathan's hand.
"I'm so sorry to you both, I understand it's a tough day for the both of you." Ward says.
"Yeah, it is quite tough." Nathan replies.
"We're always here if you guys ever need anything."
"Thank you Mr Cameron. Thank you for coming." I reply.
Sarah smiles at me before they all walk inside.
