Watching Alexia hurry up the stairs, Erin felt as if her heart was about to shatter into pieces.
The blonde figured that the captain would be messed up mentally after finding out that it really appeared like every other country was "listened to" after their call for help, except Spain.
And she wanted nothing more than to be there for Alexia.
As she retrieved the plates from one of the kitchen cabinets, Erin's mind kept wandering to the midfielder, wondering if she should go upstairs to check on her, and how she would sneak out of the living room if she decided to do so.
What she wasn't aware of was that this argument didn't just affect Alexia.
Because as Erin put down the plates, setting the dining table, and lifted her gaze, she spotted Misa, standing with her back towards her, still staring at the stairs, almost as if she'd seen a ghost.
"María? Are you okay?", Erin wonders, narrowing her eyes for a moment as she realized that she'd only been worried about Alexia.
She didn't even bother to think about her girlfriend for the past two minutes.
Great, Erin. Fantastic, really.
"I'm... I'm so sorry. I should... I should go after her and talk to her, right?", the goalkeeper asks as Erin approaches her, looking into her girlfriend's smoldering eyes as she offers her a soft smile, before pulling the brunette into a comforting embrace.
"I don't think that's a good idea... she'll calm down", Erin assures her, gently rocking them both back and forth as she feels Misa's strong arms wrap themselves around her waist.
The athlete melted into her girlfriends touch, finding comfort immediately. Erin never failed to have that effect on her.
"I didn't mean to upset her, really", Misa replies sadly, hating herself for teasing the captain the way she did, knowing that they never got along very well.
What was she even thinking?
"You didn't make her angry, Misa. The situation did. You were just... the last puzzle piece missing to make her freak out", Leila explains, getting up from the couch as well to make her way over, carefully resting a hand on her friend's shoulder.
"Well, perhaps someone should check on Alexia", Patri suggests with a shrug, gesturing towards the staircase, before turning her attention back to the group.
Someone.
"I'd say I'm the one closest with her... but since this is about the national team, I think someone who isn't involved should go and talk to her", Leila points out, whereupon both Misa and Patri nod in agreement.
That leaves just two.
Martha and Erin look at each other, instantly realizing that the others have been talking about them. And as Erin's expression got worse, her heart rate picking up at the thought of another conversation with Alexia, Martha's lips curl into a wide grin.
"I think we all agree on who should go, right?", Leila chuckles, retrieving the cutlery from one of the drawers, while Misa and Patri keep standing where they were, their gazes wandering back and forth between the two therapists.
"If anyone is in need of help, Martha is rushing to rescue. I'll be right back", Martha announces excitedly and quickly turns on her toes, ready to dash upstairs, but is stopped by a hand holding her back.
"And we all agree you're not the one, Martha. I'm sorry for that", Patri snickers, unable to suppress a laughter when she watches Martha's grin fade into a pout.
