As we speed away from the museum, a terrifying screech fills the air, and the mob's yells get louder as they chase after us. Ardeth's hands are on my waist as Jonathan drives. We eventually lose the mob behind us, and we all sigh until Jonathan slams on his brakes and stops the car. There 30 meters or so in front of us, was a mob, or at least part of a mob, and we were at a standstill with them.

"Drive, Jonathan." I hiss at him as we all start to get nervous. Ardeth pulls me back against his chest and wraps an arm around my waist, keeping me in place. O'Connell growls and moves then the car speeds into the mob as they run at us. The car is quickly covered in people attacking us. I duck a hand reaching for me and swing at the man who had been reaching for me.

"O'Connell! O'Connell!" Shouting distracts me momentarily, and a hand wraps around my arm, pulling me out of the car. I feel another hand on my free arm pulling against the one trying to get me from the car when we crash through a stall, and the hand pulling me from the car lets go. I sigh, relieved, as I lean against Ardeth, who hasn't let go yet. Jonathan crashes into a water fountain while he was looking around to make sure we had gotten away. Ardeth jumps out of the car and helps me out, as O'Connell does the same for Evelyn. We start running again until the mob starts to cut us off. O'Connell grabs a torch and swings it around, keeping the mob back.

The mob stops moving once we've been backed into a corner, and they're surrounding us. Evelyn reaches out, and I grab her hand while we get closer together. I keep my other hand on Ardeth's arm, trying to keep my grip from being as tight as possible. The mob parts slowly, and my grip gets tighter on Ardeth's' arm as the creature walks to us slowly.

"It's the creature he's fully regenerated." Dr. Bey says with a slight waiver in his voice. Beni is being frog-marched up to where Imhotep has stopped while looking at Evelyn and I. Dread settles in my stomach as his gaze falls on my hand on Ardeth's arm. He starts speaking once the mob has blocked Beni's' escape.

"Come with me, my princess; it's time to make you mine forever." Beni translates with a sneer, and I roll my eyes.

"For all eternity, idiot." Evelyn corrects him with a huff while glaring at him.

"Rana, come to me, my queen. It is time to stop fighting this." Imhotep says, and Beni goes to open his mouth to translate when I glare at the man.

"Don't even think about it," I growl as I try to think of something quickly.

"Take my hand, and I will spare your friends." Beni translates yet again, and I look at Evelyn as we both come to the same conclusion.

"Oh, dear." Evelyn breathes in worry.

"Have you got any bright ideas?" I ask, my voice wavering as I lean forward while letting go of Ardeth's arm. He turns his head with a wild look in his eyes as he realizes what I'm about to do.

"I'm thinkin', I'm thinkin'." O'Connell responds, moving the torch from his gun hand to the other as Evelyn moves closer to him.

"You better think of something fast because if he turns us into mummies, you're the first one I'm coming after," Evelyn says, squeezing his arm before letting go and walking to Imhotep with me.

"Evelyn." O'Connell reaches out, trying to grab her as Ardeth moves to hold him back.

"Don't!" Evelyn urges as we approach the man who wants to kill us. I hiss as Imhotep grabs my arm and pulls me closer to him and, with me, Evelyn. "He has to take us to Hamunaptra to perform the rituals."

"She is right." Ardeth agrees while pushing O'Connell's arm until he lowers the gun he had pulled at my hiss. "Live today, fight tomorrow." Ardeth looks at me again, and I give a slow nod with a watery smile.

"I'll be seeing you again." O'Connell glares at Imhotep while pointing at him with the torch. Beni steps away from us, and Imhotep turns us around, pulling us through the mob.

"Kill them!" Imhotep orders, and Evelyn and I both start to struggle against his hold.

"NO!" Evelyn shouts, trying to get free.

"Run! Don't fight, run!" I scream to be heard over the mob, and I can faintly hear the fighting to escape.

"Let go of me!" Evelyn demands while looking back at the others while we get dragged away. We only stop fighting when Beni shows back up and hands the key to Imhotep. I glare at the man as he takes Evelyn's arm from Imhotep and keeps her behind us.

"Rana will never love you." I finally say as we approach the gate leading out of the city and into the desert.

"She will when I am her only choice." He says before sweeping the three of us into a sand devil and heading into the desert.
