It was dark, and all the creatures of the forest were sound asleep. Hidden within a hollow tree, a little family lives. A handsome black male nine tailed fox, dark as the midnight sky in a new moon's night. A beautiful red nine tailed fox. The underside of her belly was white as snow as well as the tips of her tails. Her little feet looked as if she was wearing little white socks. Laying down curled up next to her was her little kit. He was a little black nine tailed fox. There was a little crimson red mark in the center of his head in the shape of a flame. The tips of his tails were also that same crimson red, otherwise his fur was black like his father's.

((The flame birth mark))

He was a special little fox, like his parents, he will gain a human body someday. He just hasn't reached that age yet. He could cultivate flames, beautiful red and orange flames, as well as having other nine tail fox abilities. Nine tailed foxes are most famous for their shapeshifting prowess, however, as well as their habit of seducing young men while transformed as beautiful maidens. A fox can have various motivations to do something like that but the main one is rather malevolent – to drain the victim's life essence, usually in the middle of a sexual act.

This little fox family was different, they don't use their powers for evil. They were not the evil, they were spiritual beings not demonic creatures. Nine tailed foxes are also technically immortal, meaning that they can't die from old age. They can be killed, however, be it with standard human weapons or by dogs – their biggest enemies. The nine-tailed foxes are also said to possess great intelligence and to know a lot of things about the natural and celestial realms.

Nine tailed foxes would only turn against people when they were mistreated otherwise they are kind and would leave the other worldly affairs alone. A nine tailed fox will happily reward a person's mercy or generosity with wise advice, a warning, or help. A nine tailed fox is said to ascend to the heavens faster if the fox refrains from going after people's life essence and instead focuses on self-cultivation and nature's essence. That being said, the little fox family have in the hollow of the tree are much less involved in the world. They try to just live say by day. It was this night though, that the little kit lost his parents. He was woken to a low growl, and saw his parents standing against a pack of dire wolves.

A'Ying, run and do not turn back. We love you forever and never forget that. We will always look after you! His mother spoke out to him.

The little kit whined but did as he was told. Always remembering what he was taught by his parents he will never forget them. He took off running the opposite direction. As he was far enough away, he looked back and saw the wolves tearing his parents apart. The Kit was scared and he hurt but he didn't turn back. As he ran, a wolf caught up to him. Bouncing from stone to stone and scurrying around tree after tree, the kit kept going. He felt one of his tails get grabbed and he was yanked back. He knew that one was broken. He was suddenly shook back and forth as the Wolf tried to rip his tail off only for the kit to be thrown across the forest, landing seven feet away from the wolf. The kit was punctured by a branch that stuck out of the ground but he got up, no matter how badly he hurt. He kept going. He soon found himself falling from a cliff and into a raging river. The little kit passed out from being thrown around by the rapids. He didn't know what would come of him.

The little kit woke up to find himself wrapped up in a warm blanket, and the wounds he suffered, his broken tail was splinted, and the puncture wound on his side was cleaned and wrapped. He even found that his scent was a bit different. Instead of smelling like trees and flowers, he smelled more like roses and some sort of other fragrance he could not understand what it was. He then began to smell the air. He found the sent so soothing and calming, it was sandelwood. The little kit lifted his head to look around. He realized he was inside a structure. There were items he had never seen before.

His sight was soon focused on the door as two people walked through it. One of them was holding a tray. The little fox kit carefully hid further under the blanket. He was told by his parents that people were usually not that kind, they always want to hurt them or get something from them. One of the people knelt down beside the kit and gently pet the kit over the blanket. The little kit could feel movement. Something was trying to touch him but it was soothing. The little kit slowly snuck his head out of the blanket and looked at the person trying to sooth him.

This creature is not harming me? The kit questioned, am I being tricked?

The little kit saw the person hold it's hand out to his face. The kit was given permission to gather it's scent. That meant the creature was kind and friendly. Offering a scent was a way to let the fox know that they could trust the creature that offered it. If the fox was okay with the scent and they felt no harm, they knew they were safe. The little kit extended its neck and sniffed the back of the person's hand. The kit could smell the sandalwood. He could smell the soothing spiritual energy that resides in them, and usually if they could sense spiritual energy, they mean no harm; usually. The scent also felt warm, and it was a comfortable warmth. It was like the little kit was okay with the person in front of him.

The kit carefully moved a little closer to the person and let the hand touch him. The hand gently started to pet him. The little kit stretched his neck when he felt the hand scratching at a spot that entranced him. That was his comfort zone, and he let the scratching continue. The person smiled down at the little fox before they carefully picked it up from the blanket and cradled him in their arms. The kit was not moving, but he felt another form of comfort and security from laying where he was.
