While Wangji was at the next strategic meeting for the war, Xiao Ying just hung out nearby at a table. Xiao Ying was bored but he didn't want to go in. So he said he'd stay close by. Though he didn't stay long as he heard growling. He turned and he saw one of the wolves that killed his parents had entered the camp. Xiao Ying panicked and ran towards the tent.
"Zhan Ge!" Xiao Ying yelled as he ran. The wolf got close and grabbed onto his left ankle, "ahhh!!"
Xiao Ying's eyes glowed and fire erupted from his hand. He threw a fire ball to the wolf which allowed it to let him go. Xiao Ying managed to get up but his leg hurt from the bite. Just from that one bite, his energy was draining fast. If he isn't careful, he will go back to his fox form. He ran into the meeting tent and fall to the ground panting.
"Xiao Ying?" Wangji asked concerned, "what happened?"
Xiao Ying pointed and the wolf was still there, "my energy is getting low, I will shift soon. Get me somewhere safe please?" He begged, "my leg!"
Wangji didn't need to be told more. He picked up Xiao Ying and took him to their tent. The others took care of the wolf. It was one of the wolves from the Wen Sect. They needed to know how it got into the camp and endangered not only Xiao Ying but the other cultivators as well. Nie Mingjue and Lan Xichen sent out a couple disciples each to look into it carefully. They then went to Wangji's tent to see if Xiao Ying was alright. Just as predicted, Xiao Ying was back to his fox form and now he was in more danger this way.
"Wolf saliva carries bacteria that drains nine tail foxes energy. He cannot leave the tent until this wound heals or his energy is back so he can maintain his human form," Wangji explained.
"Wangji, I know you want to fight, but you should stick with him until he is healed. We will have a couple guards at your tent at all times until then," Xichen suggested.
"I have no objections, I was going to ask you anyway, I do not want anything to happen to him, and I promised his grandmother...I need to make up for letting him get hurt," Wangji said.
"It isn't your fault that he got hurt, whoever let that wolf into the camp, is responsible," Xichen explained, "now Da-Ge and I will head back to the meeting you two just rest."
The two left Wangji and Xiao Ying alone. Xiao Ying was angry. Not at anyone but at the person who intended to harm him. His eyes were still red, which had Wangji growing more concerned.
"Hey little one, I know you are upset but you need to calm your mind a bit. We will find out who is putting you in danger," Wangji told him.
When I find out who, I will curse them myself. Make their life a living hell until the end of days.
Wangji didn't realize that Xiao Ying had gained more abilities. He was now strong enough to curse anyone who double crossed him. Wangji was happy that Xiao Ying was getting better and wanting to fight back now, but he still worried.
"Remember you told you did not want to turn demonic," Wangji reminded, "does cursing someone make you demonic?"
No, if I get more resentful then I could but if it involves getting justice, I will be fine. Cursing someone doesn't mean I will become evil. I just want this person to know that they cannot mess with someone like me and get away with it. Not anymore. I have a mate now to take care of, so that gives me more determination to fight, Xiao Ying explained.
Wangji held Xiao Ying in his arms, "it's been so long since I held my little baby fox like this, don't you miss it? The sooner we can get rid of those who harmed your family, the sooner we can be like this again in peace," He said.
Xiao Ying curled up more into Wangji's chest, I miss this too. Whoever is trying to expose me knows that I am a nine tailed fox already. So maybe someone within the camp is betraying you.
Wangji thought on that for a moment and realized it could be true. Someone deliberately let that wolf in and it could have not only exposed Xiao Ying but kill him as well. Thinking that someone wanted his little fox dead only made Wangji want vengeance.
"We will find out who, until then, I will stay with you. I will put a ward around the tent so no one can come in without special access. It will also give us privacy," Wangji explained.
But what if I get hungry? Xiao Ying asked.
"Are you?"
Yes, I am starving and I miss your cooking. Xiao Ying said.
"With the ward, you will be safe for a few minutes so I can get you something to eat, okay," Wangji said setting him down and stood up.
Okay, come back safe. Xiao Ying said.
"I will Xiao Ying," Wangji said and placed a kiss on top of his little head before going to get food.
The ward that was set up, only allowed Wangji and his brother access. Xiao Ying didn't dare leave as he could go in and out as well. He stayed out and curled up on the bed waiting patiently. When Wangji return, Xiao Ying ate while Wangji cleaned and bandaged his wound again. He didn't want it to get infected.
Thank you Ge.
"You're welcome Love," Wangji said, "if you ever need anything, just tell me."
Okay, Xiao Ying agreed.
After he ate, he slept for a while as he was tired and had taken something to keep his pain down. The medicine only made him tired.
