It was getting dark by the time you left the shop, the last sun rays casting golden light over the street. If it hadn't been so dirty, it would've looked magical. You needed to leave most of the food still inside, but you somehow managed to lock the door with your knife to protect the valuable discovery.
You wouldn't have much time to look for a nice place to stay, so you thought you could crash at the boys' place for tonight - but as soon as the night gets replaced by the early morning, you'll begone and look for your own place of dwelling, just like you had meant to before.
Because your mindset still didn't change, you weren't keen on staying with the boys and becoming dependent on them and their actions.
Something minor might go wrong and you'd all be dead.
You didn't want to risk anything, there was too much at stake.
Besides, it was easier to stay alone than to bear the pain of someone dying. Just like Harry had told you that night about their other friends - and how Eugene still felt quite depressed about all of that. It was hard enough as it was and you didn't need to put anything more on top of your worries.
But you walked with Harry and Zion back to their place, getting in through the neighboring building. This time, it didn't take as much time for you as before to cross over to the other roof but it still felt just as much terrifying. On your whole way back, you didn't utter a word, it was safer to stay quiet than to risk getting some zombie's attention with your rambling.
As soon as the door got shut behind you, though, they all started talking loudly.
"Y/n?" The other three boys looked at you disbelievingly. Lawrence spoke up about your presence first, "you came back?"
Well, you yourself were surprised you did come back, it wasn't your initial plan. You could've expected that your initial plan won't work, though, almost nothing did happen as planned, things always got out of hand one time or the other. No plan was bound to work smoothly.
"And why are you wearing Zion's t-shirt? Zion?" Lawrence turned to look at the said boy, glaring at him.
"We found her in one of the shops, spying on us," Zion went on unbothered by the latter question, just as Harry stepped up to explain your shirt got ruined.
"I wasn't spying," you gritted through your teeth. But you saw everyone's attention shuffled to the bags you carried.
Harry unzipped his bag. "We found a locked storage room there. Y/n opened it." Taking out all of the contents inside his bag, the other boys looked at the amount of food and water in admiration. Well that is, except Lawrence.
"Really? How did you open it?" he asked with a strangely suspicious voice. Then he nervously laughed as you all looked at him questioningly. "I mean- did you found a key?"
Zion stepped up, "no, Y/n unlocked the lock with her knife." He roughly patted you on the back. More like hit you, really.
Lawrence turned his head the other way and mumbled to himself, quietly so no one else heard it, "with her knife? Interesting." Then, turning to everyone, he raised his voice, "we should store these smartly. Even if it seems like much, it may go missing sooner than we'd realize if we don't keep any order."
"Surely we can at least increase what we can eat in a day by a little-" Eugene started, longingly looked at the cans and drinks.
"We shouldn't," Lawrence frowned, "we don't know how much food is left in the shop anyway nor when we'll find any more. We need to keep something for the worse times." Then he added silently, "we don't know for how long this all is going to last, after all."
