A/n: kind of an additional story to the eugene as cat hybrid au...im tryna think of some ideas for the other boys but so far no good 😓😅 anyways, hope you'll enjoy:)
__________Your rushing steps echoed as you ran on the pavement, trying to get home as soon as possible. Holding your bag above your head was of no help and didn't keep the rain out of your face - so instead, you hugged your bag tightly to try to prevent it from getting too wet. You yourself were already soaked to the bone.
It was a summer evening and you were just coming home from work.
Or, rather, running, for a storm suddenly broke out.
A lighting cackled, jagged lines of light before the flash was gone. The rain poured down.
Your wet hair stuck to your face and drenched clothes clung to your body uncomfortably. Water splashed in your shoes with each hurried step.
You came to a halt in front of the door to your apartment building. Rummaging through your bag while trying to keep the water drops from falling inside as you sought your keys, you finally opened the door and entered. Roof now sheltered you.
With a heavy sigh, you slicked your wet hair from your face and quickly hurried to your apartment. For two reasons, first, you did not want any of your neighbors to see you like that, with water flowing down your face and bare arms while all your clothes were wet. The second reason, shower.
The keys rattled in the keyhole and for once, which surprised you, the cat boy did not go out of your shared bedroom to greet you. In fact, the bedroom door remained shut closed even as you walked in and called out a hello to him. Simply shrugging at his lack of reply - no sound came from your bedroom as an answer - you rushed to the bathroom to strip out of the wet fabric and take a nice, warm shower.
The pitter patter of rain voiced throughout the whole apartment as it fell on your windowsills, with occasional thunder and flashes of lightning, bringing momentary white light into your apartment mixed in with the water falling down onto your body from the shower. Even with the running water and behind closed doors, you could faintly hear the raging storm.
When you stepped out of the shower, wrapped in a towel, you hung your clothes to dry. You had kept a pair of pyjamas in the bathroom since you changed out of them in the morning there, and put it on. Then, still without any sound nor sign of the hybrid living with you, you ventured into the kitchen to make some food for both you and Gene, in case the rascal decided to steal your food again. Setting a kettle to boil for some tea, you made yourself some [favorite food/snack] and a hot cup of tea for both of you to warm you up - even though you had taken a hot shower, you were still feeling a little cold. And you assumed the boy to feel cold as well - the temperature did drop a little as the storm broke out and you knew the cat hybrid to like to keep warm.
"Genie? I made us some food, come eat," you knocked on your bedroom door and gently opened it. The light was turned off, meaning it was completely dark in the room with the sole exception of when a lighting bolt flashed with light across the room. And there was a big shape, a dark mould in the corner between your bed and the wall.
"Gene?" you repeated, calling out his name once again - you were still met with silence, save for the shivering case on the floor. You went to your desk to turn on the lamp and after closed the blinds on the windows, gingerly stepping closer to the shaking pile. You could make out his figure underneath the blanket distinctly - the tips of his ears, how he was curled up in a ball with arms hugging his knees.
Reaching out your arm, you slowly uncovered the blanket and wete met with a face twisted with fear and fright, with eyes filled with tears, mouth pressed tightly together and ears dropped down to his head.
