Steve groaned as he felt something nudging him in the side. Without opening his eyes he tried to reach out and swat whatever it was away.
"He's waking up!" A familiar voice exclaimed, a little too loudly for Steve's liking.
"Dustin, keep your voice down, idiot!" Another familiar voice said, this one much more quieter than the first.
"Henderson, let Steve come to on his own. He needed this rest!" Robin? That voice had to be Robin.
Steve slowly opened one eye just a little, the brightness of the room almost blinding him. Little by little he opened it up more so he could adjust to the light and then he did the same with the other eye. Once both eyes were fully adjusted he tore them away from the ceiling and scanned the room, taking in his surroundings.
Robin was sat in the exact spot she had been the last time he was awake. Although, he didn't remember much about it. He just knew she had been there by his side and that made him happy.
Next to her stood Erica who had her arms crossed over her chest and a serious look on her face. Steve knew she wasn't one to show her emotions but he hoped the fact she was here meant she cared a little bit. He gave her a small smile before turning his head to the right where Dustin was smiling widely at him. The younger boy was sat back in a chair with his bad leg propped up on the bed. Steve noticed that the leg was covered is a white cast and he frowned.
"Henderson, your leg!" Steve managed to croak out. His mouth felt as dry as the desert and he looked around for some water. It was like Robin had read his mind because she was already holding out a plastic cup for him. He gave her a small smile and took a sip, almost sighing with relief as the water soothed his throat. "What happened, man?"
"What do you remember, Steve?" Dustin asked, a worried look starting to appear on his face.
Steve thought for a second before he answered. Everything was a little but fuzzy but he remembered almost everything. "I know you hurt your leg, man. Is it broken?"
"Annoyingly, yes!"
"It's your own fault, dingus! The doctor said if you hadn't continued to walk on it then it would have just been a minor injury!" Robin replied, rolling her eyes.
Steve shook his head and turned back to Robin. "What time is it?"
"It's almost 1 in the afternoon. You've been sleeping since 6am this morning."
"Oh good, I was worried it had been longer. Please tell me there is news on Max!"
Dustin and Erica looked down, avoiding Steve's gaze. Robin was biting her lip nervously but he knew she would tell him.
"They won't tell us anything. Not even Nancy could get anything out of them." She admitted. Robin wished she had news on the younger teen just so she could put Steve's mind at ease.
"Has her Mom not shown up?" Steve frowned.
"No sign yet, Stevie."
"That's bullshit! Their trailer was fine!" Stevie raised his voice a little, angry at the fact no one had been there for Max. Her Mom was the only person who could have found anything out while he was out. Steve planned to give the doctors as much hell as possible to get answers if he needed to.
"I know, I saw it too. She might not have been there though. The light wasn't on." Robin replied, stroking his wrist gently to try and calm him down. She ignored the look Dustin was giving her. Now wasn't the time for questions about her and Steve.
"Maybe she was at work. She may not be alive for all we know, Steve." Erica piped up, trying to be the voice of reason.
Steve took a deep breath and thought for moment. There was a possibility Erica was right and that made him feel worse. If Mrs Mayfield wasn't alive anymore then that meant Max had no one to take care of her when she was better. He didn't even want to think about Max nor surviving.
