Kerrigans POV:

We are gathered in a cozy crook of the tree. Belt mixes drinks while Gran relaxes in a hammock. Thunk is playing with his new pet. I'm sitting next to Guy, his arm is rapped around my shoulder, as he occasionally whispers things into my ears making me laugh or presses light kisses to my forehead and cheeks.

Thunk: good boy. Whose my good boy? You need a name, you want a name? I'm going to call you Douglas. Look at him. Can you do tricks? Roll over. Come on Douglas, roll over

Thunk calls out to the dog like creature Douglas rolls over, right off the tree..

Thunk: good boy Douglas!

Thunk yells to the doglike creature Belt pours a drink for Gran. Sandy takes Gran her drink as she spins over to her on her starfish shoes.

Gran: I was in love once. He was a hunter, I was a gatherer. It was quite a scandal. We fed each other berries. We danced. Then my father smashed him with a rock and traded me to your Grandfather...

Gran tells us making Sandy, Eep, Thunk, and Belt laugh below i can hear Grug and Ugga arguing about Guy's presence, Grug not liking him and Ugga being happy he's helping us I hear Ugga climb up the tree to be with the rest of us. Grug isn't thrilled with Ugga's shot at him.

Grug: sleep pile? How about a story, huh-? Anyone..?

I hear Grug yell up as I press myself harder against Guy's chest, closing my eyes.

Gran: and then Torg said 'Know it!? I drew it!

Gran jokes once again making Sandy, Thunk, and Belt laugh.

Thunk: that makes no sense..!

Thunk says laughing. Ugga arrives and sits next to me and Guy. She takes in the scene smiling.

Ugga: I know it was hard for you to bring us along, but they had the best day of their lives. Thank you for that...

Ugga smiles as she looks at all of us, all other children a rumble distracts Guy making me open my eyes and look up at him. He looks to the horizon. Fire and smoke on the horizon mark the leading edge of the collapse. Eep comes to our side.

Guy: I want to show you something..!

Guy says as he lightly pulls us up and drags me with him Guy lights a torch and leads the Croods up, up, to the forest canopy. Guy blows out his torch. The night sky is revealed in all its glory. The rest of my family are amazed. Perched on the canopy of the forest we seem to sit at the very brink of the universe.

Me: more suns in the sky than you can count...

I breaths out amazed.

Guy: every sun that crosses our sky, comes to rest up there!

Guy says looking up at the sky, making me as well.

Eep: tomorrow..!

Eep breaths out looking at me, she grabs my hand squeezing it once before letting go. I'm really lucky to have her as my sister.

Guy: that's where we'll be safe...

Guy says holding me closer.

Me: I'm going with Guy.

I tell them holding his hand in mine. Grug is beside himself with panic, sick at the thought of losing me.

Grug: no... Not my little girl..!

I don't hear Grug say for once.

Me: come with us!

I ask looking at my family.

Eep: ok..!

Eep says smiling me.

Ugga: I can't go without Grug...

Ugga smiles at us sadly.

Gran: well, that makes one of us. Count me in!!

Gran shouts.

Ugga: really Mom..? Now-?

Ugga groans Grug continues to listen in.

Gran: Grug has no idea how to protect us. In fact, he has no ideas at all

Gran shouts.

Ugga: no, that's not true. What about that one time when he a-..!

Ugga tries to reason coming up with nothing.

Gran: face it... If he actually had an idea of his own I'd, I'd have a heart attack and die!

Gran jokes making Grug smirk
