Dante's Pov
The first rays of sunlight were just starting to peek through my window at five in the morning. As I sat up in bed, I couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt wash over me.
My mind wandered back to the events of yesterday, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I had been too hard on Faith. I knew I had given her an overwhelming amount of work to do, and I couldn't help but regret it.
But then, as I thought about it more, I remembered that Faith had brought some of it upon herself. Ever since buying Dailyplus, Faith has always been eager to take on new challenges, to prove herself and show her worth.
In a way, I admired her drive and determination.
I had always treated Avelyn like royalty, showering her with love and affection. So, when she abruptly vanished from my life, it left me feeling hurt, confused, and determined to find out the truth behind her sudden disappearance.
As I delved deeper into Faith's mystery, I began to unravel a web of lies that she had spun around herself. Her claims of having children were nothing but fabrication obviously.
Something tells me she was Faith; I just knew she was!
How could she leave me for a stakeholder's son? What did he have that I didn't? Obviously, I had the upper hand in everything.
One thing that deeply frustrated me was her lack of compassion towards me. I had hoped that, at the very least, she would display some signs of care and affection, or perhaps slip up every now and then and show the love she once had for me. Unfortunately, there was nothing.
The thought almost had me destroying everything in my possession. It still made no sense considering Avelyn owned half my empire. That half-wit Mark had nothing on me. So why would she leave me for him?
My phone rang and I wondered who it could be, "There's been an incident at the office sir! An employee was found passed out and was rushed to the hospital."
"What was an employee—" Before I could finish answering the question, realization struck me like a lightning bolt.
I sprang to my feet, frustration and worry bubbling up inside me as I raked my hand through my hair in a forceful gesture. "What was the name of the employee found at the office?" I demanded, my voice edged with urgency.
"It was your personal assistant, sir," the voice on the other end confirmed.
The devastating news hit me like a physical blow, and I abruptly ended the call, the weight of the situation settling heavily upon me.
In a frantic rush, I managed to shower and hastily throw on a pair of clothes within ten minutes. Cursing under my breath, I berated myself for putting Faith in this situation.
Why did she have to listen to me? Why did I let my jealousy drive me to hurt her? Frustration consumed me as I recklessly disregarded traffic signals in a desperate attempt to reach Faith as quickly as possible.
In just a week of finding her I had gone ahead and put her in the hospital. Was I that much of a horrible person?
What if she quits? No, she cannot quit! I won't allow it. I would never let Faith ever leave me again.
I managed to reach at the hospital in less than five minutes before rushing in to see someone that could point me into her direction.
While I was preoccupied with finding Faith, I failed to stop and chat with the twins I had collided with just the other day.
As I caught a glimpse of them leaving the hospital in tears with what appeared to be their mother. In hindsight, I regret not taking the time to check on them during our encounter as the two little toddlers' soul strongly and strangely called to me.
"What room is Av– I mean, Faith Emerson in?" I hastily questioned the first doctor I encountered at the reception area, my voice tense with worry and guilt.
"She's in room thirteen but only family members and close friends can go inside. Who are you?" She requested to know.
"I'm her boyfriend." I stated rushing to find room number thirteen.
As I approached Faith's hospital room, a sense of apprehension crept up on me. I wondered what I might find on the other side of the door.
Would Faith be sleeping, or would she be awake and in pain? I took a deep breath and as I was about to push the door open, I could hear that there was already someone in the room with her.
It was a woman, her voice raised in what sounded like an argument with Faith and I could hear quite clearly what the woman was raging about.
"No, Faith!" she exclaimed, her tone incredulous. "What if something even worse had happened to you? While our boss had you overworked in the office late at night, he was sleeping peacefully in his bed. This job is not worth risking your life for! That wretched man can go to hell for all I care."
"I can't leave this job, Mavis," she said, her voice sounding strained. "I need it. What will I do if I leave? My babies will end up suffering, and I'm already struggling to provide for them."
As she spoke, a knot tightened in my stomach. The realization that Faith had children, and the potential hardships they might be facing, weighed heavily on me. The thought was almost unbearable.
Wait, Faith had children after all?
Had Faith adopted children? Questions swirled in my mind. How could Faith afford to adopt children when she was struggling financially?
And why would she run away to suffer here when she had an entire empire back home?
Was she really Avelyn? I now had my doubts.
The woman Mavis seemed to be affected by Faith's words as her voice softened with a mixture of pity and concern for Faith. "I understand," she said. "But you can't keep putting yourself in danger like this. What if something happens to you, and then what will happen to your children?"
"I don't know," she whispered. "I don't know what to do. I haven't even finished the paperwork on my desk, I'll probably be fired after this."
"If he fires you then we'll seek legal actions and find something even better." Mavis stated.
For a moment, silence enveloped the room, leaving me standing at the door, uncertain of my next move. The weight of the situation pressed down on me, and I struggled to find the right words or actions.
It was evident that Faith was facing a challenging situation, and her children were undoubtedly at the heart of it all.
As Mavis recounted the events of the previous night, a wave of regret washed over me. "Not only were you affected, but your children were too," she said solemnly. "They cried all night when they realized their mother hadn't come home, and I wasn't able to reach out to her."
"Fuck."
