"Mumma!" My babies exclaimed excitedly, the sheer joy in my voice echo through the room, as my precious little angels darted towards me with uncontainable excitement, their tiny feet pitter-pattering across the floor as they burst through the door.
"My sweet babies!" I enveloped them in a warm embrace, cradling them in my arms and showering their angelic cheeks with countless kisses.
Their affectionate response mirrored my own, as they pressed their tender lips against my skin, filling the room with love.
"Mumma, we missed you," they whispered softly, their tiny arms wrapped around me in a gentle embrace, their words melting my heart.
"I missed you both so much," I replied, a hint of bittersweetness lingering in my voice, as I longed to share with them the truth about their father's presence during my absence.
"I missed you too, my darlings. And guess what? Mumma has a surprise for you!" I playfully teased, eagerly awaiting their reactions, a mischievous sparkle in my eyes.
"Candy!" they chanted in perfect unison.
"Absolutely!" I responded, delighting with their enthusiasm. With a smile, I handed both my baby's sweets, watching as they clung to me, their innocent faces beaming with happiness and joy.
"Thank you, Mumma," they uttered once again in at the same time.
Oh, how I had yearned for their presence during those seemingly endless three days apart from them. It felt like an eternity since I had last held them so close, aching for their little giggles and affection.
"If I'm not mistaken, there's a radiant glow about you. Do tell me, is there something that happened on your little business meeting?" Mavis playfully teased, her knowing eyes twinkling mischievously.
"Trust me Mavis when I say nothing out of the ordinary occurred," I retorted, rolling my eyes at her playful banter.
However, I couldn't help but recall that breathtaking kiss I had shared with Dante, a mixture of bliss and heartache lingering in my thoughts.
But yet I couldn't shake off the sting of hurt, realizing that he could so easily engage in such an intimate act with someone he had just met, betraying the trust I had in him while remaining oblivious to the possibility of his wife feeling hurt from his wrong doings in the past.
Overwhelmed by a profound sense of sadness, I sought solace in the bottom of a nearly empty bottle, drowning my sorrows in alcohol. As the night wore on, the weight of my emotions seemed to dissipate, momentarily offering respite from the turmoil within.
However, the next day brought with it the harsh consequences of my impulsive indulgence—a throbbing headache and a queasy stomach that made their presence known with unwavering persistence.
Yet, amidst the physical discomfort, it was Dante's perplexing behavior that continued to gnaw at the corners of my mind, intensifying my unease and amplifying the magnitude of my inner turmoil.
The haziness that enveloped my memory made it all the more unsettling, as I struggled to recall the events that unfolded during that night.
My mind drew a blank, save for unconnected fragments—vague snippets of waking up, engulfed in a fog of disorientation, my senses tainted by the remains of the previous night's indulgence.
And then, as I took in my surroundings that morning, a lingering, alluring scent had wafted through the air, teasing my senses and hinted at Dante's presence in the room earlier if I'm not mistaken.
"Come on, spill the beans! Did you guys at least lock lips?" Mavis pried, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
"No." I shut her down.
Mavis, my ever-curious confidante, couldn't resist digging for more details. "Not even a kiss on the cheek?" she inquired; her voice laced with a hint of intrigue.
"Of course not!" I hissed at her.
"I've told you a gazillion times, Mavis. We've had this convo over and over on the phone. Remember?" I rolled my eyes, a tinge of annoyance and playfulness coloring my response. It was a bummer to keep repeating my boundaries, but it was necessary.
"Well, if you say so... what a shame," she nonchalantly shrugged, swiftly sifting through my belongings as if on a treasure hunt.
"What did you bring for me? Oh, don't even think about trying to convince me that you embarked on some glamorous escapade to a luxurious hotel, only to return empty-handed without even a tiny shampoo bottle to give your dearest friend, it's bad enough you wasted three days without even getting a damn kiss from Dante." Mavis playfully scoffed, raising an eyebrow in mock disbelief.
"Oh, Mavis, you underestimate my cunning ways. I knew you'd have this expectation, which is precisely why I got something special for you," I replied, a mischievous grin tugging at the corners of my lips, as I handed her a bag filled to the brim with stolen goodies from my hotel stay.
Mavis's eyes widened with delight as she eagerly digs into the bag, her eyes sparkling with anticipation over the things I had gotten her. "I see you've been taking notes Faith. Thank you!" she exclaimed, a joyful giggle escaping her lips as she examined the different types of goodies within the bag.
"You remember when I told you that these two little troublemakers were actually angels? Well, I lied. These rascals made sure to give me a taste of hell because they were dying to see you. But I played it cool, knowing you'd most likely ran back here after I told you," Mavis chuckled, glancing at her phone as it beeped with a new notification.
"I'm so sorry, I promise it won't ever happen again," I apologized sincerely, bending down to scoop up my two munchkins who were happily engrossed in sucking on their candies.
May's eyes widened as she glanced at her phone, her expression a mix of surprise and intrigue. "Oh my gosh," she exclaimed, her voice filled with shock.
Caught up in her shock, I couldn't help but ask, "What is it?"
"Have you seen this message that our company just posted? It just popped up on my feed," May replied, her tone brimming with excitement, knowing she had piqued my interest.
"No, I haven't. What's it all about?" I inquired, my curiosity building with each passing moment, eagerly awaiting to hear what Dante had done this time.
"Well, guess what?" May announced with a gleam in her eyes, causing my curiosity to spike even more.
"What is it?" I asked, my voice tinged with both excitement and disbelief.
"Prepare yourself because our boss, Dante, just made a surprising announcement. Tomorrow...is bring your kids to work day!" May exclaimed, her enthusiasm loud.
My mind couldn't quite comprehend the revelation. Bring your kids to work day?
What the hell?!
