Dante's Pov

As I sped through the congested streets, frustration gnawed at me. If there was one thing I knew, it was that Avelyn would try to rush home and hastily pack her bags with the intent of running away after I figured out her identity.

The mere thought of her escaping from me again stoked a fiery mix of anger and hurt. Why was she so damn adamant to keep running away? Especially since I had just gotten her back?

Fuck!

Fortunately, I had become acutely aware of Avelyn's place of residence, and, unbeknownst to her, I had discreetly planted a tracker within her phone. It was a measure I had taken to ease my own growing worry, a way to bridge the divide that seemed to be ever widening between us.

For the first time, anger bubbled up inside me, an unfamiliar sensation. I was never the type to lose my cool or raise my voice with Avelyn. I always saw her as delicate, someone to be handled with care.

But in a moment of weakness, my frustration got the best of me, and I lashed out with hurtful words. Truth be told, I deserved the sting of her retorts, considering how harsh I had been. But her accusations left me utterly bewildered, like solving a damn puzzle.

She had previously implied that I must have committed some grave mistake, leading my wife, which is her, to run away back then.

She was asserting that I had cheated on her and started a family with another woman—an absurd notion that struck me as utterly preposterous.

Avelyn knew better than to think I'd ever cheat on her. I can't believe she's trying to deflect her wrongdoing onto me when she was the one that cheated.

Clearly, there were countless unanswered questions lingering in the air, demanding my attention, one being why was she so insistent on running away once again, was it solely based on the assumption of my supposed infidelity?

Were her children truly sick that she couldn't bring them to work, or was she deliberately concealing their identity from me because of her cheating in the past and having children outside our marriage?

Thoughts swirled in my mind, a relentless whirlpool of guesses and speculation, as I grappled with the mysterious forces that had suddenly ignited Avelyn's restlessness.

What had transpired to push her to the point of storming out of the office? The fact that I could feel her slowly succumbing to my influence only added to my confusion. Clearly, she still loved me.

Could it be that her misgivings arose from witnessing Catherine, my personal assistant, kissing me on the cheek—an innocent gesture, devoid of any romantic connection?

Damn it!

I needed to find Avelyn fast, to explain that Catherine's role was strictly professional, meant solely to assist me with briefings and finalize important business deals. She hadn't even given me time to explain.

With a weary sigh, I navigated through the sea of cars, desperate to reach Avelyn's apartment building. Time seemed to slow as I approached the entrance, my hand poised to press the elevator button, but just before I could step inside, a light pat on my leg jolted me from my thoughts.

To my surprise, I found myself face to face with the bubbly twins I had encountered earlier. Their beaming smiles stretched from ear to ear as we entered the elevator together.

"Hello there, Mr., wemember us?"  Aiden greeted me with an air of familiarity.

A rush of warmth enveloped me, urging me to gather both children into my arms. Their innocent gazes met mine, and for a brief moment, the weight of my worries seemed to dissipate.
