I Must Know

Okay, so I was starting to think myself crazy. I was relentless! I couldn't stop going to see Shadow. She'd already caused me like three hospital visits. What next?

Well, I'll tell you what was next.

I escaped from the orphanage in the middle of the night, leaving a note in the kitchen: "I MUST KNOW."

Then I slipped out into the night.

I found the place-that-doesn't-have-to-be-named and stepped deep into it.

I didn't have to speak. Someone spoke for me. And my someone, I mean Shadow.

"I thought you'd be coming."

"Yep."

"I've been expecting you."

"Fantastic. Are you ready to answer my questions."

"Not here."

"What?" I was confused.

"I can't tell you here. We need better privacy."

I was swept off my feet again, but this time I was put in a sack and carried. I struggled, but I accomplished nothing. Finally, I was tied to a chair.

"Why am I being held against my will?" I shouted at the shadows.

Shadow's voice replied, "So you don't try any nonsense."

"Fair enough. Are you going to reveal yourself?"

"I believe I've caused you enough pain."

She'd prepared for this. I knew it. Usually, I snuck up on her and she pleaded for me to leave. Now she had no intention to show me weakness. She was pretending to be strong.

"Then come out," I said. "Show yourself."

First, a chair emerged from the shadows. Then a leg, covered by a knee-high black boot and shiny black leggings after that. Then, the rest of the body emerged.
