Candy fainted right onto an armchair that was beside my bed. She came to in about three minutes. I guess my promise to Bethany startled her so much that she lost consciousness.

When she came to, she said, "Raja - Promise me that you'll leave Shadow alone. No more chasing Shadow."

I sighed, crossed my fingers, and promised. Now I wouldn't have to feel bad when I disobeyed Candy.

I uncrossed my fingers when I said this: "I'll be a lot more careful."

That I meant. I didn't want to cost Candy for my medical bills and pain is not what I signed up for. So I was going to be careful. When I chased Shadow.

Don't tell Candy.

The doctor reached forward and plucked the mask out of my hands.

"Maybe... We should keep this," he said. Candy nodded.

"No," I said. "It's mine."

"️Raja - Shadow isn't -" Candy began.

"Shush. I won't chase Shadow, but I'm keeping that. My mother touched it."

"️Raja, really, don't obsess over Shadow either. Please? I'm stressed enough on this concept already."

"Candy, I want that mask."

"Ms. Crete, may I speak to you in the hall... Privately?" the doctor asked. Candy glanced at me and then allowed the doctor to usher her into the hall.

I sat and thought. Should I actually go after Shadow again? I heard her voice. She was telling me to stay away. Why? Was she ever planning to reveal herself to me? If she's gonna stalk me my whole life, shouldn't I have the right to know the reason? I thought so.

Candy and the doctor returned.

"️Raja - We think the doctor should hold onto Shadow's mask," Candy said quietly.

"No. I won't stand for that!" I shouted. "It's mine! It's Shadow's! It's my mom's! I WANT IT!"

My head ached.

"NOW, Candy," I continued to yell. "GIVE IT TO ME!"

Suddenly, I felt a stinging pain in my arm and my world began to swirl. I saw the doctor step back and set a syringe now.

"He just filled me with drugs against my will!" I hollered. "I could report you for that!!"

Candy's pale, worried, and tired face was the last thing I saw before I blacked out.
