Competitive Spirit

"You look very pretty!" Hunter smiled.

"Thank you!" Willow paused, "That's the seventh time you've complimented me today."

"I know. You have so many complementable things about you." He smiled innocently.

"Wait! You're trying to beat my record, aren't you?" She pointed a finger at Hunter accusingly.

Hunter fluttered his eyelashes. "Of course not!"

She eyed him suspiciously. "If you say so."

"You look very cute when you're mad."

"I'm not ma-I see what you did there."

"Did what?"

"That makes nine. You're only two away from my record."

"Am I?"

Willow narrowed her eyes. "You are and you know it. Don't play with me, pretty boy."

"Was that a compliment?"

"Yes, it was."

Gus, Amity and Luz watched the battle with varying intensity.

"Explain this again, Luz?" Amity asked.

"There are three rules, the compliments must be genuine, must be spread out throughout the day, and the record holder gets to choose where they go on dates."

"And how do you know this?" Gus asked, squinting at Willow, who had her arms crossed and was staring at Hunter with mock frustration.

"I asked Hunter the other day." Luz shrugged. "Oh, listen."

"Come on!" Willow laughed.

"I believe that makes thirteen." Hunter smiled broadly. "I finally beat your record!"

"You did! And by two!"

She pecked him on the cheek.

"Congratulations Flower." She said, smiling.

"Wait. That's it?" Gus asked, turning to Luz. "No fight?"

"You really think a fight would come out of a complement battle?" Luz rolled her eyes.

"And remember the" Amity made air-quotes "'fight' at the pizza place? They fought over which one of them got the last slice, but fought for each other. When Willow got the slice, Hunter celebrated."

"Oh I get it." Gus sighed. "I wanted to watch a fight."

"Good Titan. You sound like that guy Eda married." Luz sighed.

"EDA'S MARRIED?" Amity and Gus cried.

"Not anymore. She married some human dude named 'Stan' for 48 hours. She was literally just trying to steal his car."

"Of course she was." Amity sighed.

Luz laughed and kissed the top of Amity's head. "It didn't work, if that makes you feel any better."

"Well OBVIOUSLY it didn't work."

"What happened to him?" Gus asked, suddenly extremely interested in the human.

"From what Eda told me, he started a weird tourist trap in Oregon."

"Fun I guess."

Willow materialized out of nowhere. "Whatcha talking about?"

"NOTHING!" The three of them scrambled away.

Hunter joined Willow, kissing the top of her head. "You have such pretty eyes."

"Don't raise the record!" Willow grumbled, batting at him playfully.

"Too bad! I just did!"
