Arietta

A pale hand stretched out to me was coldly slapped away by my own. When I looked for a face, it was like a giant marshmallow. My hand reached out for the marshmallow-ness without hesitation.

He glared at me menacingly, causing me to flinch slightly. First he holds out his hand, then he glares? Is it what mother calls puberty? She said something about quick mood changes and being really mean.

At closer inspection, his fine hair was a more golden color, shocking me slightly. He also seemed to be around his mid-twenties.

"Did the marshmallow get cooked?" I asked myself cautiously, eyeing his hair as I fiddled it between my fingers.

"My hair is not a marshmallow! You will be the one who is cooked if you don't let go!" His sass took me by surprise. But those icy eyes...

He can't be just any normal person, besides, what's that pressure called again? Bloodlust? He's just oozing with it!

"Fine then, golden marshmallow." I grumbled, and added, "More like a black marshmallow... At heart."

He looked shocked and then suddenly recovered the first mask he had worn the first time. A serious mask. Why so serious? I just don't get it!

Then my eyes latched onto golden hair, the same bright color as mine. It just attracted me across the room, and the golden hair was with a raven-haired boy. The goldie-locks and green porcupine both were probably twelve. It just seems logical.

"Hey, boys, how old are you?" The words slipped out of my mouth. Whoops! No take-backs now!

"Twelve." The two responded in unison, afterwards glaring at each other. I was right!

"I'm fifteen." I gave a snide smile and thought proudly to myself, 'Finally I'm older than someone!'

"Name?" The inquisitive blonde asked.

"Arietta Hill. You?" His eyes narrowed.

"Pariston Hill." He let his stony gaze slip to the boy next to him.

"I'm Jahan Fricks." The green porcupine mumbled through a mouthful.

That's when I realized it was my food. My food!

"You little-" I began angrily, stomping my feet.

"Oi! Everyone! Look here!" The examiner called sweetly, and no one looked at her as I continued my rage.

"-turd ball! How dare you eat the food my mom made!" I finished, not listening to the Examiner.

"Hey!" Her voice was still ignored, despite the obvious irritation in her voice.

"Wait-did you say your last name is Hill?" My head turned to look at the blonde.

I think it's obvious that I'm a slow-thinker.

"I said to look here!" She shouted angrily, finally catching all of their attention.

"I am Sprig, and I am the examiner for the First Phase. You would most likely love to know that you have been watched. Now, we are going to head to our First Phase site, okay?"

She had neon purple hair and emerald green eyes, and seemed to have a horrid temper.

Once she began to walk off, we began to follow her, at least, most of us.

"Oh! And by the way, anyone who stays here is disqualified!" She yelled so that those people could hear.

The boys and I were already beside her, as a hole appeared in the wall for us to walk through. That was where we saw tall beams, that rose at least 70 feet off the ground. There were ropes around the beams.

Sprig looked at us and sighed, she thought we were too young, huh?
She then began describing the First Phase.

"You must use the rope around the beams to get to the top, then, you must hop from beam to beam and get to a hole in the wall, and anyone who falls is disqualified. Anyways, once you go through the hole, you have to find the most valuable thing there. Each hole will close once someone is inside. Okay? Good luck!"

She quickly jumped off the ground and somehow got on top of a beam and did the unthinkable; okay, not really unthinkable, but she disappeared into thin air!

Ging, Pariston, and I all found our beams and began to climb. I don't know what happened to them after that, but I think I was the first out of us three to make it there.

I began jumping from beam to beam, and finally found a hole that wasn't closed. There I began to walk until I saw a light. It was suddenly bright in this cave, and I could see many beautiful items like jewelry, golden boxes, gems, etc. Any of these items could be the one I need!

Immediately, I picked out a powerful object, or at least I think it was powerful. It was a mirror with a golden frame. That might sound lame, but the frame's design was nothing to scoff at. Even me, the one who didn't really like shiny things unless it was utensils for food, I was drawn to it.

It had intricate flower patterns all over it, and it just needed a little dusting to make it even more beautiful. Hopefully my decision won't let me down.

I took it with me, I don't know where exactly anymore, but there was a light that suddenly burst into my sight, and so I followed it. It was stunning, and once I walked through the exit of light, I saw a huge sphere room, just like the one before, but there were only a few people here. They were all holding or guarding their treasure.

I simply sat down. There was nothing to do really, just wait. When I saw the examiner here, and she saw me with the treasure, her face told me I had found a great treasure. Maybe I should trust my instincts more?
