Hikaru entered Music Room #3 very slowly, trying to find a good way to explain to the others that Kaoru had left to Kyoto to attend a different school. It was going to be hard, for sure, especially to tell the ladies. Maybe Haruhi had already told the rest of the Host Club. Hikaru found himself crossing his fingers behind his back when he walked in. Honey, Mori, Kyouya, Tamaki and Haruhi were all seated around a table, talking about something Hikaru couldn't hear. But when he closed the door behind him, everyone's eyes shot to him in unison. Honey stared for a mere couple of seconds, then got up and skipped over to Jikaru, carrying Usa-chan at his side. "So where's Kao-chan? Is he gonna be late again?" Hikaru tugged at the collar of his uniform. Suddenly, it was choking him. Or perhaps that was the panic building up in his throat. He wasn't going to tell this cute little boy that Kaoru was gone, even if he was a year older than him. He was just too... Adorable. The continued staring from everyone else indicated that Haruhi had in fact, to Hikaru's relief, told them about Kaoru. "Honey, we forgot to mention... Kaoru is gone. He left to Kyoto to attend Touki high school yesterday afternoon." The voice belonged to Kyouya, who looked very insensitive and careless as he explained this to Honey. "B-but... Why? Why did he leave, Hika-chan?" The short blond boy had his eyes fixed upon Hikaru, who was motionless. What was he supposed to do? "He.. Uh..." Before he could finish, Haruhi stood up quickly, knocking the table back a few inces. "Because Hikaru and Kaoru were both being stupid and took their fight way too far. Now, since neither of them could bring themselves to apologize, Koaru left." Haruhi had mostly been very calm and collected. Her face was red and filled with anger. She burst out these words with such force that even Kyouya was taken by surprise. Honey looked like he was going to cry when Mori grabbed the boy by his arms and lead him away, back towards the table. "I just... Don't get it. You guys have never fought before. This one time... Why didn't you apologize?" This from Tamaki, who had a distant look in his eyes. Hikaru once more opened his mouth to reapond, but was interrupted by Haruhi. "Because he has too much pride. They both do. They're selfish and childish." The words out of Haruhi somewhat hurt Hikaru, not so much because they were offensive, more because they were true. Hikaru and Kaoru had been basically stuck to eachother since birth, always at eachothers sides. All through elementary and middle school. Finally, this year, they got an opportunity to expose themselves to people around them. But from all those years of knowing no one but themselves, they'd become selfish and prideful. He had no trouble admitting it. Hikaru looked down at floor by Tamaki's chair. Te young leader of the Host Club was very quiet all of a sudden, not jumpy and over-dramatic as he normally was. Kyouya broke the uneasy silence. "Well, we have a lot of girls requesting you and Kaoru this week... I don't see how this could work though, as Kaoru is now in Kyoto thanks to the selfish actions of the both of you." Hikaru clenched his fists at this side. Kyouya loved to push people to their limits just to see how much he could torment them with his words until they broke. "Anyways, we will have to think of another way to go through with this, we can't let our beautiful customers down, can we? Also, we need to make a profit on this of course..." Hikaru clenched his fists even tighter. Money. Was that really an issue in this situation? What about making the girls happy? "We have to go through with this. No matter what. Hikaru will just have to figure something out on his own." Tamaki stood up, and sighed. "Come on now! Let's change into our costumes for today, shall we?" 15 minutes later, Hikaru was sitting on the couch dressed in a waiter outfit, and Hikaru had to admit that it was pretty cute. But how he would make the girls happy, he wasn't sure. Ideas, ideas... He didn't have enough time anyways. Before he knew it, floods of girls came rushing into the room, and many of ten were surrounding Hikaru. "I heard that Kaoru has left. Are you sad?" "You must be so lost without him... I can only imagine the despair you must feel." "Don't be sad, Hikaru! Here, I made you a cake..." Girls swarmed around him, asking more questions about Kaoru. He was fine with it, they were harmless questions after all. He laughed and smiled and reassured the ladies that he was doing okay without him, though he longed for his brother quite often... (Squeals in background) but one question set the timer on the bomb that was Hikaru. "How can you live without him?" He felt something. Was it anger? Quite possibly. "Yeah, I mean, Kaoru is usually the one who is more organized about everything, right? Haruhi told me so." His face was turning red. He was sure of it. "What happens when you lose your temper? I've never seen it before, but Kaoru told me that he's the only one who can get you back under control again." Tick, tick, tick. the bomb was ready to burst. "Poor, poor Hikaru..." "All alone..." "Lost..." "I CAN LIVE ON MY OWN WITHOUT HIM!! I DONT NEED HIM WITH ME EVERY WAKING MOMENT!! I CAN DO THINGS ON MY OWN!!" Too late, Hikaru realized what he'd done. 12 startled girls were staring straight at him, wide-eyed. Tamaki yelled to him. "Hikaru, how could you yell out in front of our guests like that? You scared them half to-" Hikaru turned on his heel and raced out of the open door and didn't stop until he was outside of the school. No one seemed to be there, so he sat, and glanced at the sky. I don't need Kaoru. God, why couldn't everyone just understand that he and Kaoru were not one and the same? Hikaru began to slowly realize how much they'd changed. A few years ago, anyone who would've said that to him, he would've denied. Now, he liked being different. It was fun. But being away from Kaoru wasn't. It gnawed at him every second of every minute of every day. Behind him, a pebble scattered across the pavement. Someone was here.
