It took Mia and Kaoru almost an hour to say goodbye. There were a lot of tears from Mia and some voice cracks from Kaoru. As they were driving away, Mia ran up to the rolled down window and kissed Kaoru, right on the lips, and stayed that way for what seemed like forever. Kaoru waved until the huge mansion was completely out of sight, then sighed and leaned against the now closed window. A few minutes passed before someone spoke. Hikaru decided to break the silence. "So, you leave me for a few weeks and get yourself a pretty girlfriend? I thought we were supposed to make decisions like that together!!" Hikaru joked while poking Kaoru playfully. Kaou looked up and studied Hikaru for a second, then played along. "I would've called you, but I was sure you'd end up trying to steal her from me." Hikaru felt a smile tug on his lips. "That is a good point.... I mean, she is cute...." They joked together for an hour or so, never letting the conversation get too personal. Kaoru talked about his time with Mia, his school (which was pretty boring) and just about everything else. Hikaru talked about the prank Tamaki had set up for him (Kaoru laughed at that) and The Host Club. After about an hour of talking, Kaoru went silent and trend to stare out the window again. Hikaru wanted something more to say, but the truth was, there was nothing. He knew what Kaoru was thinking about, it was obvious, but Hikaru didn't want to push him to talk about it. Hikaru had waited for the moment when he'd hear his brothers sweet voice again, and they'd only ever gotten an hour or so in the hospital together. Besides, with all the chatter outside of the room and the constant groaning coming from the man who shared a room with Kaoru, it felt like they were rushed to talk. Now, they had hours to talk and Hikaru hated the silence and awkwardness that was growing between them. He placed his hand on top of Kaoru's but Kaoru didn't even twitch. Lost in thought. "You okay?" He heard Kaoru sigh but didn't remove his hand. His younger brother leaned his head on top of Hikaru's shoulder and Hiakru finally took his hand away. "I've only known her for a few weeks, but it feels like I've known her my whole life. She just...." Kaoru didn't finish his sentence, but Hikaru already understood. He'd only even in the same room as Mia once or twice and spoken to her for less than 30 seconds at a time, but it felt like Mia had always been there. Kaoru nestled his head further into Hikaru's shoulder and sighed again. Neuter boys said anything for a while, and just when Hikaru was about to say something to Kaoru, he was interrupted by the sound of heavy breathing and looked down to see Kaoru eyes closed peacefully. Not wanting to wake him, Hikaru gently laid his brothers head down so that it was laid down across his lap. "Night." He whispered, to himself or to Kaoru, he wasn't sure, and closed his own eyes. He soon escaped into darkness.

"Get in the car!!" His mother's voice rang through the house and bounced off the walls. Kaoru made his way slowly down the stairs and out the huge doors. He couldn't help but remember Mia's house, which was much bigger than his. He was glad that his house had less stairs, or else he'd have to get up at 5:00 in the morning just so he could get out the door in time with his crutches. It was 4 months after leaving Kyoto and Mia and Kaoru would be allowed to walk without crutches in a couple of weeks (thank god). He had stayed in touch with Mia over the last few months, but starting at the beginning of this week, she hadn't been responding at all to his texts, calls, e-mails and letters. He kept telling himself that she was just busy, but he had his doubts. A few minutes later, he had finally plopped down into the limo beside his brother Hikaru. They waved to their mother and rolled the windows up as they zoomed by. It took exactly 9 minutes and 45 seconds to arrive at Ouran (Hikaru had a watch). Just like they did every school day, Hikaru gabbed all of Kaoru's things and brought them to thee classroom. They passed Haruhi in the room, who was blabbing non-stop about a new student, and took their seats. "Good morning everyone, today we have a new student!! Her father was transferred here from Kyoto-" Kaoru's breath caught. "-and she is very excited to be starting here. Please do your best to make her feel welcome here." The teacher motioned to the door and a small girl who looked like she belonged in grade 6 walked out. She had long black hair, at least, a lot longer than Kaoru remembered, and startling brown eyes. Her cheeks were pink, probably from having so many faces she didn't know staring at her at once. Well, she didn't know most of them. Her lips quivered, but not in a I'm-about-to-cry kind of a way. It was more of a I'm-trying-not-to-smile-because-I'm-embarrassed kind of quiver. As she slowly walked towards the teacher, she kept her eyes directly on all the students in front of her. Her gaze touched every person in the room. She stood up straight and tall in the front of the room, and Kaoru had to admit that she looked much better in a light yellow dress than dark red uniform. "Would you like to introduce yourself?" "My name is...." The girl scanned the class and her eyes rested firmly on Kaoru. "....Mia." "Welcome, Mia, take a seat wherever you like." The girl sat down beside Kaoru and shot him a smile that stretched from cheek to cheek.

"Have a good day students!!" Hikaru was a few steps from grabbing Kaoru's stuff to get to the next class, but before he could, he realized Kaoru was gone. How he hadn't noticed his brother leave, he had no clue, but his chair was empty and the books were gone, too. Hikaru slid out of the classroom and glanced around, hoping to see him. He finally did, outside. "Kaoru!! Our next class is...." Kaoru and Mia were together, sitting on the grass and laughing. Kaoru had Mia's hand, gripped tightly between them, and he showed no sign of letting go. It was a little weird for Hiakru to watch. All their lives, Kaou had never really shown any affection for girls. For a long while, they'd both been convinced he was gay. The only hand Kaoru had ever held was his brother's, which brought Hikaru to the thought that Kaoru was also a lot more mature now. He wasn't the same mischievous little boy anymore. Actually, scratch that thought: He was. He was just.... Older. Hikaru had first thought when he met Mia that now Kaoru would be with Mia 24/7, not needing Hikaru anymore, or wanting him there beside him. He was proved wrong just then when Kaoru slipped as he was trying to get up after Mia had left for the school. Kaoru looked up at his brother with a small smile and a please-help-me-but-don't-tell-anyone look. Hikaru sighed. Kaoru was the still the same after all.
