A quick drive and some fence hopping later, the four of us managed to find a spot just by where the two men were supposed to meet. Pope, being the genius he is, apparently had a camera on himself just in case.

It's Pope. Of course he had a camera on him.

"Nice camera," JJ commented, almost as though he could hear me thinking. "Where'd you dig up that relic? Why don't you just use your phone?"

"Fun, spy shit, detective roleplay," I joked. "The list goes on."

"Well, first of all, I like my antique electronics," He put a foot out to knock the side of my shoe, which pulled a quiet laugh from me. "Second of all, this is a telephoto. It allows me to get a close image from far away."

"Lord of the dorks," Kie commented.

"For definitive proof of witness payoff, we're gonna need quality glass— there he is," Pope nodded toward Ward, who was carrying a duffle bag under his arm.

"Yo, get down," JJ said quickly before we all ducked behind the tall fence, trying out best to stay hidden.

"And there's Gavin," I commented as the other man ran up to meet Ward. They both ran into the construction structure.

"Where are you going, you son of a bitch," Pope commented quietly. "No, no, no, no! I'm losing him. Shit. Where's he going?"

"Hold on," I watched as the blonde went back down the alleyway, head cranes toward the roof. He whistled quickly, catching the other two's attention. "Yo! Hey, I found something. Come here!"

We followed him around the corner and to the back of one of the buildings, our backpacks clinking and jangling on our backs.

"Gotta go up top," The blonde pointed at a small ladder, which we all ran to climb.

"That'll work."

"Hurry, don't wanna miss anything."

Once we made it to the roof, it was easy to crouch behind the ledge and get a direct vantage point into where the men were.

"You rolling, Pope?" I asked, thumb caught between my teeth.

"Are you getting it?" Kie echoed.

"Yeah. Yeah, I see them," He began to narrate the exchange, giving the rest of us a better understanding of what was happening. "Ward just handed Gavin something. I think it's a duffel bag."

"Guys, I think this is a payoff," JJ stated, looking at everyone.

"Hush money. Classic shithead Ward," I grumbled.

"Gavin doesn't look happy about something. It looks like he's yelling at Ward," Pope continued his narration.

"Why?"
